Had a warm and hearty lunch on a cold, dreary day. The staff were all friendly and helpful with attentive service. Portions were generous and the fish was fresh. Dessert was a highlight with the local biscuit cake. Very affordable prices for the Algarve on a strip where most of the restaurants are over-priced. Ask your server what is fresh and delicious or just pick from the daily specials.

Discovered this place by accident on the main drag in Olhão. Very typical traditional Portuguese restaurant. Speciality seems to be cataplana fish stews. In fact the restaurant bills itself as the ‘king of the cataplana,’ and it certainly lives up to that boast. My friend and I had the monkfish and prawn cataplana and it was AMAZING! Huge amounts of prawns and monkfish with loads of nicely cooked onion and tomato. Absolutely delicious. It was certainly big enough for three, maybe even four people with small appetites. It defeated us, sadly! With a very nice bottle of rose, olives, water, and a salad, the bill came to around €65, a complete bargain! Service was friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend.

Outstanding food and service . Was aching to Have a local dish with sea food finally I have had an outstanding yet a good prices. The fish we went for was calma end prawns cataplana which is a local Delicious dish. I recommend the dish yet the place

Oh well. Booked a table at the restaurant and ordered the food, fish and filet steaks. Fish course arrived but then pork and clams in a pan arrived instead of the steak. Pork and clams returned to kitchen as we explained we ordered filet steak and they explained there would be a ~30min wait in the kitchen. After ~35mins no food so I went and asked. Within 5 mins pork steaks arrived instead of filet steaks. Oh well, food returned and half the party went to another restaurant to have their evening meal.
However, recommendation of the wine by the waiter was very good and the restaurant was very busy with local clientele but we won’t be returning.

The food is average, average, almost suspenseful, but people go because the price, for where it is, is quite reasonable in some presentations, such as rice and cataplanas, with generous portions. For a little more you can eat much better in the surroundings and much more peacefully without waiting up to an hour for a table. The service, however, is good, they couldn't go faster given the large number of tables to be served by each waiter. If you want to reserve a table, however, the service is discriminatory, it depends on whether you are Spanish or not, if you are, they do not allow reservations at certain times that they do allow for other people, as I was able to verify; In any case, I could only appreciate this differential treatment in that aspect and, truly, I cannot explain it.

The meal I had (bacalhau and chickpeas) was in the top five worst meals I’ve ever had! The cod was ok but it was served with an entire tin of lukewarm, unseasoned chickpeas which had been dumped on the plate, along with the chickpea/fish water combined. The accompanying carrots were badly cooked and looked like they’d been peeled with a rusty scythe. The hard boiled egg (whole, unseasoned and with a grey yolk) also looked like it had been peeled wirh a medieval farm tool. The boiled, unseasoned potatoes were the best part of the meal! There was sadly more than enough; the portion was huge. I didn’t pay for it because it was so bad. Our waitress was lovely though and the wine was good for a bargain €8.50. The other food was very average.

Unfortunately, a bad experience... After being recommended by locals, I was expecting the best seafood cataplana... It's not... The seafood had no flavor, everything was very dry, overcooked, the only flavor was from the pepper onion and tomato...no seafood flavor. For starters we ordered fried prawns and roe salad...More of the same, no flavor, the prawns were dipped in a sauce full of fat. The only positive point is the service, super friendly and attentive employees.

We had an early-ish dinner here and sat outside. Ordered the house red wine (tasty) and the monkfish and prawn cataplana, which was delicious. Relaxed atmosphere and very friendly service. I appreciated that the tables were spaced enough that you weren’t right on top of other diners, and they even added another table to ensure there was room for the cataplana. By the time we left, the inside was full of locals who all seemed to be having a great time.

We had an absolutely amazing meal here. the Algarve Cataplana was absolutely delicious and huge!! The staff were very friendly and helpful especially our waitress Birgitta who supplied excellent wine recommendations, extra napkins and refresher towels as we made a mess working through this exceptionally tasty dish. Highly recommend this restaurant for authentic Cataplana.

I hadn't been to this restaurant for two or three years, which I have visited 4 or 5 times, and I have noticed a huge drop in quality and an equally huge rise in prices. The cod cataplana was totally bland. Also the dry and bland cod plus very small pieces. I seem to remember that it cost €23 and now no less than €36. The clams and shrimp/prawns before and the shrimp now, also a similar price increase and with less quality than before although not as much as the cod. A place that I always had in mind on my visits and that I will now discard for other options when I return. Muralhas green wine is now €14 when in the supermarket it is about €4 and so on the rest. Very expensive for the quality. What does not change is the excellent service from all the people who served us. The best thing without a doubt, the staff.

Absolutely delicious seafood and fish. The cataplana with prawns and clams was the best I’ve ever had! Our waitress was lovely, very friendly and helpful, although the service was a little slow as she needed some more help as the terrace was full and she was alone. Definitely pre-book as it was busy! Super well-priced as well!

Extremely average at best. Every other restaurant on the strip very busy apart from this one ! No salt ander pepper on table and no dressing for salad. Asked for several fish dishes not available as its Sunday well don't open if you have no fish in Olhao ffs !!

Tried on the occasion of a group trip.
The location is very simple, without being overly spartan.
Menu with different fish proposals: being an organized dinner, the main course was the cataplana, the main dish of the house.
Rustic but effective presentation, with very abundant and rich portion: inside shrimp, clams, pork, chorizo, peppers, onions etc.
The sore point, for my personal taste, was an excessive and strong presence of coriander, typical of Portuguese cuisine in general.
The quantity was really high, enough to cover any other taste: a shame, since the quality of the fish and meat was more than good.

No opening hours, call for Reservation is not possible because one picks up nket. Opening hours on google are wrong. They were closed when they were supposed to be open. Food is delicious but if you can't make a reservation there normally and sit down, what for now?

Be careful when you book, they do not reserve the table for the right number of seats and the table requested on the terrace is inside! And of course it's your fault. So friend’s advice, go eat elsewhere!!! Don’t expect an apology either, too complicated!!! Restaurant not to be put in your favorites!!!
