The place I was staying recommended the Blue Mountain as somewhere with a great view. I had limited time as I wanted an early dinner and to get home before it was dark. There was a full check upon entering the property (I was asked...to show my ID!), and then there's a long drive down a very rough track. Unfortunately it was Mothers' Day, and the buffet was on until 5pm. I arrived at 4pm. No option but to have the R350 buffet. I didn't want it but by this stage in the day I was a bit stuck. There was a choice of 2 starters (had the soup, which was ok). The main courses were a choice of three meats, all hacked into small pieces, and around 5 containers of veg. Nothing had labels, so it was a guess as to what everything was. Dessert had a few more options. I went with the cheesecake, which was tasty, but varied from being cool to warm, so I guess it was frozen then microwaved. Overall, totally overpriced. Beautiful location, but don't go for the very mediocre buffet.More
The scenery from the deck is beautiful. The buffet and a-la-carte menu have a wide variety to choose from.
During a period of 10 days we had dinner on the restaurant's deck 4 times. And everytime again we received not only a warm welcome by the friendly staff, but we also enjoyed magnificent meals. Especially the steaks were awesome. Highly recommended.
Magnificent views to accompany magnificent food! We went back 4 times to enjoy this restaurant on deck. Sunday buffet highly recommended.
Terrible place. Service was bad and the food was even worse. Cesar salad advertised with bacon, anchovies and Parmesan… didn’t come with any of these… or even a Caesar dressing! Had a drizzle of balsamic instead. Starters took 50 mins to arrive after ordering. Food...here is of a really low quality - prawns with no meat on them, ribs with hardly any meat. Seriously, look at the mountains from the road then find somewhere decent to eat. Even the waitresses said ‘lots of people are complaining at the moment’… says it all.More
Waiters and staff are great but the owner or manager Andre was behaving in the most unprofessional manner, shouting and swearing at the staff for the whole restaurant to hear. When we told him we are trying to enjoy our dinner and could you not...do that, it's unprofessional he told us "that's your opinion" in the most aggressive and cocky way. So we left. He then got in his company vehicle and sped off. Waiters also informed us that it's a daily thing, being treated like this from the owner/manager. Such a beautiful place and really decent food but we won't be back and will not recommend your restaurant to any of our lodge guests or any of our clients from our other businesses.More
We stayed at a lodge close to this restaurant, which gave us the recommendation to come here. We drove to the place and were extremely happy when we left. As soon as you walk in, you will be directed to a table. In the entrance...hall there are multiple seats full of blankets, as there was (as far as I have notices) no indoor seating, only outside. We ordered our food and were extremely happy with our steaks and the Bolognese pasta we ordered. Our waiter Marvin was paying attention to us and tried to fulfil all of our wishes. Highly recommend this place.More
5 out of 5 Pizza is the best , service was quick and music not to loud highly recommended as a local !! One of the best resturant
We came here on the recommendation of a local lodge we stayed in at Blade River and came away extremely happy. Friendly and attentive service (thanks Marvin), outstanding steaks, wide choice of food and a wonderful evening setting with outdoor seating or indoor as you...choose,,,,highly recommended ….More
Even by SA standards the service today was laid back to the point of horizontal. No wine list but very quiet young waitress listed about 4 Sauvignon Blancs we could have. Then waited about 30’ for that to arrive. Then more time passed. We ordered...food. More time passed. Another bottle was ordered which arrived very quickly indeed. Then waitress reappeared wit question about how lamb cutlets should be cooked. Disappeared. Then reappeared to ask what carb was wanted with starter. At some point a completely different waiter appeared to ask if we were ok & we begged him for some food - bread, nuts, anything! After more than an hour, in an empty restaurant, starters came. Then mains. By this time we were beyond caring. A beautiful view of the mountains does not make up for the complete lack of service - can only assume the waiters were also the chefs & were multi tasking. Do yourself a favour & go to the sister restaurant the Hat & Creek in Hoedspruit itself which is run with far more verve and attention to detail.More
Brilliant experience. Not only the best views in or around Hoedspruit, but also the best lamb shank I've ever had! Think fall-off-the-bone slow roasted in chilli, tomato, garlic and red wine, with perfect puree smooth mash and even a few edible flowers for decoration. Unreal....Oh, and if you're not too distracted by the food, look up at an unrivaled view of the escarpment. Doesnt get much better.More
It was too hot the day we went but the tables under the big tree incorporated into the deck provided good shade and lovely views across the Bush to the mountain backdrops. Marlvyn quickly became more like a friend than a waiter and the selection...of starters and hake main that we had were all really good with little touches and presentation that made it seem like a treat. It was a treat and we will go again will we are in the area.More
We stopped in for a quick lunch and then returned for some dessert! Lovely atmosphere amongst the greenery and beautiful bird sounds as well. Great service from Malvin and Rebecca, who were very friendly and professional. Food was very good; especially the calamari and pizza....A definite do-again!More
Seating outside overlooks the spectacular Drakensberg mountains. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed ice cold wine and beers whilst soaking in the view. We had the calamari steak and Blue Mountain fillet. Both melting in the mouth buttery tenderness. The star of the day was...the chips though. Golden crispy deliciousness. The 5 star goes for how the slight mishap with the meat order was handled: with ultimate professionalism and grace. We finished off our scrumptious meal with Dom Pedros and cappuccinos. Well done to the exceptional kitchen and waiting staff.More
