Meat as South African loves it. Might seem a bit burnt sometimes but it is very tasty. As the origin is the butchery next door, still providing the raw meat, it is fresh and can be cut to the size you desire. I got more than I need. Also try the billtong, you can even buy it to take away.... More

A most impressive restaurant. Unbelievable decor and design. Saturday night and it was really crowded. Probably seats 209-300. I tell you this because food and service didn't suffer due to size. Steak was just fantastic as was the wine selection. Good variety on the menu, but I believe if you are in a steakhouse order steak. Anyway a real highlight... More

My husband, son and I completely enjoyed our meals! My husband is still talking about the Game Carpaccio a month later! The T-bones were mouthwatering! Our waitress, Selina, was extremely attentive. I most definitely would return!

As always, Butcher Shop and Grill produces great food. Service was a little slow and quite confusing trying to track down our waiter when we wanted to order. Always one of our favourite restaurants but could maybe do with a few extra waiters.

Had a 6 hour layover in Joberg so took the train to Sandton and walked the mall for a bit. Was told about about this place from a couple we met in Livingstone, Zambia. SO glad we listen. Had a light lunch and was not dissappointed at all. Highly recommend the prawn and avacado appetizer. Great place. Great price and... More

This place is going backwards and the only good thing about it is the friendly service. We have been visiting this restaurant over many meals but wont be back, Six of us had supper and all but one of the meals came luke warm, the steaks were not up to standard and all the accompaniments were stogy and almost cold.... If you want a good steak, this is the place. Good steaks and very good selection of wines. Expensive. Good service. Little dissapointed, came in the evening and they didnt have few of the things from the menu. Maybe we were just unlucky.

Managed to get a table on Valentine's night. Good atmosphere and food delivered without much of a wait. Look forward to a return visit.

When you pay more than R1000 for a dinner for 2 you expect a certain wow factor. (And I certainly don't mind spending good money on a good meal!) While the dining experience certainly wasn't bad and the food good enough, the only wow we experienced was the dessert. The rib-eye was very good, but my wife's lamb shank was... More

Description
In the heart of Sandton, on Nelson Mandela Square, is the flagship Johannesburg branch of The Butcher Shop & Grill:
an institution in South African dining.

For over 20 years, our unmatchable steakhouse has been as much a part of SA culture as sunshine, red wine and red meat. You could say it is a landmark on the culinary landscape (and we're now in Cape Town and the Middle East). But The Butcher Shop is also about family - and the laughter, memories and conversations shared with special people over great food at a top steakhouse. Our family business, handed down over three generations, is famed for its quality produce, extensive menu, separate butchery & deli and 800 passionate staff globally.

In Johannesburg we're able to seat up to 600 guests, plus 22 guests in our exclusive private dining room. In Cape Town, we can accommodate 250 guests, with capacity for an additional 40 guests in our private dining room.
