The place is really cute with some native decor worth buying. Had some yummy sandwiches and soup. Service was somewhat slow. Make sure you use the northern lights coupon here

About 10 miles before you get to Talkeetna, is a small sign announcing The Flying Squirrel which is set back in the trees. Inside is a delightful restaurant serving soup and sandwiches made with freshly baked bread, and fresh vegetables, often from their own garden. Their cookies are also delicious (I like the rosemary shortcake). There are often surprising food... More

What a great find on our side trip as we headed to Denali. We loaded up on their baked goods and were delighted that they had several gluten free options for my companion with celiac. Our favs were their double chocolate peanut butter cookies and their zebra cookies. Wow! OK, they were so good that on our way back south... More

Ate here twice while in Talkeetna. Lunch first day had a frantastic grilled cheese sandwich and soup. Soup was split pea and the peas were not fully cooked but it was still good. Breakfast the next time, had a egg bagel sandwich. It was bagel day so the bagel was fresh made. They have an open kitchen so you can... More

Flying squirrel is not your normal bacon and eggs place. With a full bakery inside, breads are their specialty and it tends to lean towards the vegetarian/vegan side but has meats too. It was so long ago now I cannot remember what I had except that it was a breakfast sandwich with bacon. The eggs came runny and I wasn't... More

Great little bakery for breakfast near Talkeetna! Try the chocolate ruggelach with a cup of hot coffee... you won't be disappointed. The menu actually had quite a few options, such as muffins, scones, and several hot options.Everything we tried was pretty tasty. It's definitely worth a stop in.

Definitely worth stopping at. Came highly recommended but even better than we heard. Excellent sandwiches and terrific baked goods. Two of us are into cooking/baking and we were both impressed with the quality of the desserts we ate. The kind of place to return to over and over if passing by.

The food is decent and the restaurant was close to our cabin. Filling breakfast and enough coffee is important for me to kickstart start my day, but the portions seemed small and there were no refills on coffee. Also similar to other restaurants in AK, a little $ than what I consider reasonable for a typical American breakfast.

If you are in Talkeetna you MUST swing by here for breakfast once. All 4 of us got different orders and we each loved ours. I got the cinnamon and honey toast, it was heavenly.

I can't recommend this place enough. We were in town for just one day and went for breakfast. They have an excellent selection of breakfast items, coffee and baked goods. Everything was outstanding! I took some cookies to go and wish I had bought all of the ones they had. ;)
