Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is incredibly peaceful. I would suggest coming here to have a nice chat with a friend or that special somebody. Don't get me wrong... this is not a place I would consider romantic but an Oasis in a crowded-untidy capital city like San...Jose. Cafenauta is a fusion of vintage and modernity. If your coffee time is priceless then this is a place that you will enjoy and appreciate. A special mention of honor should be made to the staff. Delicate and still great customer service. I got a wonderful dessert suggestion: red velvet (it's very sweet... just to let you know). Also, at Cafenauta you have numerous specialty coffees that you can buy from dedicated costarican coffee-professionals. My coffee was absolutely delicious. A reward from heaven.More

February 8, 2018 - As part of a Costa Rica tour group, we stopped at Cafenauta for a coffee presentation and small sample of a sweet. Cafenauta's location is superb in an area of San Jose that has been well established and is currently undergoing...a resurgence. The gentleman who gave us the coffee presentation was excellent. The coffee he was discussing is Alma Negro Natural and has a wonderful flavor. The coffee was brewed in a ceramic pot. We were at the Cafenauta for about a half hour with the demonstration, tasting, and discussion. It appears to be a good place to stop for a sandwich at lunch. The staff is friendly and the decor inviting. If you are in this particular area of San Jose, I recommend that you stop at Cafenauta for coffee, pastry, and/or lunch.More

Excellent lunch combo. Great sandwiches with surdough bread. Good vegan option. Pineapple juice with ginger. And a lovely double macchiato with, as our very kind waiter explained, the acidity of a green apple and the aftertaste of cacao. A very nice spot to remember.

I came here with some students for a coffee tour. I was mind blown about coffee and different ways of making it using different containers, machines and other varieties of coffee itself. I tried the costa Rican style coffee as well as some king of...Soda coffee which was very very refreshing. If you have questions feel free to ask Vinicio he is very nice and open to answering questions. He can even show you how to make different types, proportions and samples of coffee. #PuraVidaMore

Located at the end of a posh street in northern San Jose. Armed guards frequently patrol the area. Right by the edge of the zoo (but you can’t enter the zoo from that street). Quirky little cafe and shop. Choose your own model animal from...the bucket instead of a table number. Decent WiFi though. Unique ginger beer, good coffees, tasty sandwiches and good looking cakes. Friendly and helpful staff, even helped practice our Spanish.More

Vinicio and Pamela are more than artists of coffee! This time I tried something new in this farm to cup, family run hidden treasure of a shop. Coffee where the beans were stored for 6 months in old wine barrels to impart high notes of...wine to the coffee. The best of both worlds. So interesting game to distinguish subtle flavors and aromas. Like alchemists of old, Vini connects Heaven with Earth. As above, so below. The magic is real when you experience these masters of Love and coffee.More

The cutest little coffee shop that ever did exist. I had a chai latte made with almond milk... LOVED IT. I wasn't going to eat but I'm leaving San Jose tomorrow and I HAD to try their food. I got the Vegan pita. It's filled...with caramelized onions, mushrooms, hummus and tomatoes. So good. Everyone was so friendly. I really really dug this place and the vibes. It's one block away from the Selina hostel. I ended up staying til dark and was nervous about walking back by myself bc everyone talks about how dangerous it is here, which I'm sure is true deeper into the city but the girls at Cafenauta assured me that I'd be fine and I was. I made it back safely enough to be able to write this review! HahaMore

Great all around cafe. Not only do they have amazing and natural foods in a city filled with fryers, but they give back. They export their coffee beans grown locally but save a portion to sell to the surrounding community. The people are so kind...and friendly, and work with vegans!More

This colourful spot is in a pleasing neighbourhood. It has a refreshingly unique menu, in appearance as well as content. We appreciated vegetarian options that didn't involve beans. The staff is comfortably bilingual and very knowledgeable about coffee. An entirely enjoyable experience.

We dropped in to this pleasant coffee shop because it was near our hotel. Chatting to Jen she told us all about the coffees on offer, production methods and so on providing a fascinating insight into the world of coffee. Spurred on by this my...husband bought bags of coffee beans, carefully selected, from all the countries we travelled through in Central America. Now back in the UK our coffee grinder is not good enough and we need one with different grades of grinding, methods of brewing are being scrutinised and no doubt w will have to travel miles to get good supplies once ours are exhausted. Thank you Jen!More

Quick lunch in SJO, sandwich and salad with the greatest red velvet cake. French music and urban cafe make up the perfect scenery. :) And for coffee lovers a must stop, try the cafenauta cafe. ✨✨✨

I try to come here every week have a cup of coffee and choose from the great pastries (the chocolate cafe and chocolate chips cookies are out...of this world). The house where is located is simply beautiful. You are going to love it!More
