Our driver / guide Orlando Vargas took us to this steak house as he has known the family for many years and it was fantastic in all respects - service, food quality and friendliness.

My wife and I first stopped at el Tobagan for lunch after a day of outdoor activities around Arenal. Mauricio, a member of the family that owns the steakhouse, showed us some of the cuts of beef they had to offer. The steaks he offered didn't look at all like the thin, tough cuts that we've seen in some other... More

This was the best and most affordable breakfast during our entire stay in Costa Rica. The breakfast consisted of two fried eggs, fried bananas, avocado, beans and rice, cheese and sour cream. The coffee was brewed at our table. It was an amazing breakfast experience. We only wish we had discovered this place earlier in our trip.

While driving back to my hotel we stopped in to satisfy some hungers. Couldn't be happier we did! From Mauricio bringing out different steak cuts for us to choose from, and the coffee being made in front of us at our table. everything about this visit was very vibrant. I left feeling like a friend more than a customer. We... More

We had a number of dishes here: Steak, seafood pasta, fried steak, fried tilapia, rice and seafood, meat tacos, and lots of fresh juice cocktails. The best thing I had was the fried tilapia. To pay close to $25 for a taco, or $30 for fried steak, it better be perfect. This was good, but the ambiance (outdoor, unconditioned dining... More

We stopped here on a whim for breakfast. This was the best breakfast I have had in my 8 years in Costa Rica. The staff was attentive and friendly. Can't wait to come back for dinner.

A strange lead to my review, but: the place is open air, in a very rural and dusty hollow, next to a main road; and yet, it is absolutely immaculate inside... like, spotless and shiny. So, that's a good start. The service is charming and kind, though clearly NOT about hamming it up for the tourists - more stoic. The... More

My husband & I visited this restaurant with our 19 year old daughter & 21 year old son in August 2015. The outdoor setting was very enjoyable and traditional. The food outstanding and the young man who was our waiter really made our experience stand out. He brought us a special drink at the end of the night that really... More

Got a recommendation frm a local tour guide I trust. The place looks cheep, the menu is rich, practically limited to two kinds of meet... The stake is ok. Fries and salad on the side. I had better... even in McDonalds! Nothing to write home about. Service was VERY friendly! $30 USD for this? Come on!

My husband and I both had the steak fajitas and they were wonderful! We found the prices to be in line with other local steak restaurants. Very good!
