Have visited this restaurant many times and enjoyed the food but this time I was very disappointed. I had the fried shrimp and oysters and both were bland and tasteless. The breading on the oysters was three times the size of the oyster itself. The...More

I wrote a review on The Original Oyster in February of this year and it was a poor review. Today I tried this restaurant again. This time I was seated near the window as requested. I ordered the same plate as before, and this time...More

This place has excellent gumbo, probably the best in Mobile. Service, drinks, and key lime pie also excellent. However, do not order the raw oysters here..not fresh shucked, very small, probably from being shucked hours before and dried out in a refrigerator. Go to Wintzells...More

The restaurant is located just a couple miles off I-10. We got a table with a great view. Our server Phillip was excellent. The food is delicious. The salad bar is fresh with good selections. Baked stuffed shrimp and cheese grits were excellent. Highly recommend!

There's a ton of these tasty mammoth sized seafood shacks dotting the causeway, so picking just one is a toughy. Ive recommended a couple of different places to different people, depending on what their specific cravings were. I've been going to The Oyster House since...More

I was there in the banquet room for a wedding dinner. The food was absolutely amazing. The workers were nice and the view from the windows in that room were beautiful. I'd definitely eat there again!

This place was highly recommended, so we thought we'd give it a try. We got there late so seating was easy and there was no wait. With a large menu it was a little tough to choose but we eventually settled on a few items....More

After visiting the USS Alabama, we stopped in for a late lunch. It was still busy at 2pm, but there was plenty of seating and we were seated immediately. We had the fire grilled oysters which were excellent. The red snapper was cooked perfectly and...More

I make it to Original Oyster House, usually once a month, as several of the community building organizations I belong to hold their meetings here. I have tried nearly all the menu offerings-> and have found the best to be: Josh's Blackened Shrimp & Grits....More

Description
Opening its first location in Gulf Shores in 1983, the Original Oyster House restaurant quickly expanded and opened its second restaurant two years later on the Mobile Causeway. It soon became known as a Gulf Coast favorite for panoramic waterfront sunsets on the Mobile Delta, fresh Gulf Coast seafood and award-winning gumbo. Classics such as hand-battered fried crab claws, blackened Mahi and fire-grilled Gulf oysters kept locals and visitors coming back for more. A visit usually includes kids on the playground, seafood platters and Southern hospitality. Along with its take-out, homemade desserts and seafood gumbo, the Original Oyster House has been sending alligators home in kid's meals, and gives back to our community in sponsorships and donations. It has been recognized for its environmental practices including converting its fry oil into biofuel to transport, its solar water heaters and the only wind turbine on the Causeway, which generates electricity when winds reach 8 miles an hour or more. in 2016, the Original Oyster House piloted Alabama's FIRST Oyster Shell Recycling Program.
