Visiting Shanghai for the first time we were told that this sushi restaurant was good. In fact it was not good but even better. The only thing: we had to wait for a long time to be served even after several demands!

Ate their with my partner recently. The meal was great, ingredients tasted fresh and of a high quality. Afterwards my stomach was not right for about 24 hours. I thought maybe it was just me but no, my partner who has a rock solid gut had the same issue. We thought perhaps it could have been some alcohol we drank... More

Went with a group of 9 to Haiku and had an amazing time. The restaurant was kind enough to reserve us a private room, which was set in a traditional Japanese style, you even took your shoes off! The menu offers lots of options, and prices are high but typical for quality sushi. The food was beyond amazing. Each roll... More

Haiku is for sure one of the best restaurants in Shanghai. I've been there several times now and it's every time a good decision to go there. They have very special and delicious rolls and fresh sashimi. You have to go there!

The restaurant is very classy and in a wonderful location. We have been with friends from out of town as well as on our own, and it never disappoints. The sushi is wonderful, very fresh and some wonderful taste combinations. The rolls are are a good size also. There are some interesting options outside the sushi as well, I really... More

Being a lover of sushi and after reading the reviews here on TA, we came here for a business lunch. The pure sushi was just OK, but some of the rolls were very good. The service was attentive and very good.

Having eaten at Haiku on a previous visit to Shanghai we headed back there on a recent visit to Shanghai and were not disappointed. Haiku was still one of the best restaurants we visited, great really fresh food, very friendly helpful staff, and pleasant surroundings. They have the best sushi it's a must go to restaurant.

I love Haiku! As someone with a finned fish allergy, sushi is tricky - especially with a language barrier. I went here for a date and the staff was very accommodating and spoke great English which made all my weird requests easy to communicate. I LOVE the Princess Li roll which is crab, shrimp and tempura flakes and the avo... More

After returning from Japan, we were a little dubious about Chinese sushi... But this restaurant is so refined and the fish is so fresh. Amazing! A definite place to visit if you are visiting Shanghai, for residents also for a lovely date night. Their sashimi, wow.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
