We stayed at the Fairmont and visited this iconic Jazz Bar. It was happily busy. Reasonably priced with first class entertainment and a mixed crowd from all over the world.

Our group enjoyed the Jazz Bar very much. Great music, nice bar, and a very historic setting. Make reservations, we tried to return another night without reservations, and it was full.

No the jazz isn't great, no the drinks aren't great, yes the food is awful, but make sure you experience it. It's a load of fun watching these personality filled old guys bang away slightly out of time to Chinese and other favourites. Reservations strongly recommended if you don't want a potentially long wait.

Makes you feel like you've gone back in time. I think the jazz band is also the oldest, and I mean oldest, jazz band in Shanghai. Lots of fun.

Try this place any evening, any day. The jazz band members have been playing here everyday for years ! I mean decades ! The place is small and i would recommend sitting at the bar to better view the band. Drinks are the same price as everywhere else, the venue at the Cathay/Peace/Fairmont hotel is great and location right on... More

We felt like we were back in the louche Shanghai of the 1920s. It was atmospheric with great music and excellent cocktails. We had a wonderful evening.

A shanghai institution with great drinks and live music. We took only drinks and snacks here but enjoyed the olde worlde atmosphere. Service was efficient and professional. Drinks quality very high, although a little on the pricey side (although you are also paying for a live jazz concert). Recommended at least once while in Shanghai.

A great place to go and enjoy an evening. Great environment and entertainment from this literally 'old' jazz band, a septuagenarian sextet. Highly entertaining in what must be Shanghai's most famous jazz band. An evening of entertainment and nostalgia. You'll pay a bit more for the drinks but well worth it.

The Jazz Bar fulfils your fantasies of what life was like in pre-war (and decadent) Shanghai. Atmospheric, cocktails, good whisky and a wonderful old (literally!) Jazz Band. We are not jazz fans but we were entranced by the music and the mellow and tranquil mood of the surroundings. Our top treat in Shanghai.

Everything was so old school and quaint and cool. Service staff was great and of international standard, especially considering I was in track shoes (don't judge me) and cargo pants. Two drinks should about cover you for the minimum spend of RMB200. If you're not too hungry, don't need to order food too cos they'll give you assorted (tasty) nuts,... More

The Jazz Bar at Fairmont Peace Hotel is the only address in China for legendary jazz, carrying guests instantly back to the private clubs of the 20’s and 30’s with its comfortable and authentic décor. The menu is tailored for easy eating snacks, featuring European and local dishes, and a timeless cocktail list inspired by what was on offer in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The current Old Jazz Band is made up of six veteran musicians whose average age is 77. They have drawn an audience for decades of locals, international travelers, celebrities and heads of state such as former US Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. Staying in The Bund

Neighbourhood Profile
The Bund
While there are certainly many other “bunds” in the world, “the Bund” refers to Shanghai’s famous waterfront. The area’s Gothic, Art Deco and Beaux Arts monoliths were built when it was part of the Shanghai International Settlement run by the British and Americans. The atmosphere of colonial-era luxury has endured over time and is now found in the five-star hotels, luxury brand boutiques and expensive restaurants that can be found within the historic buildings. A cultural center has built up away from the water and some of Shanghai’s best art galleries and museums are housed close to the Bund. Nighttime views of Pudong and the rest of the city also make for a great backdrop at the many rooftop clubs.
