My wife ordered medium rare lamb chops. Came more than medium. Taste as only so-so. She said skip it. I ordered medium rare ribeye. It was the toughest ribeye I have ever had. Needed a saw to cut it. I sent it back and cancelled the order. The manager suggested other options. At that point I just wanted to get... More

We have had brunch at the City Bistro in the Marriott Shanghai City Centre Hotel three times during recent vacations. Our most recent visit was about a week ago. The do a great Sunday brunch buffet. The restaurant covers most if not all of a floor of this large hotel, so there are plenty of food stations. One of their... More

We eat here while staying at the Marriott on business. Food is always consistent with lots of choices. There is traditional Asian and Indian dishes, along with more western style options for breakfast. The quality was fresh as usual, and lots of wait staff to help at year beckon call.

In short, it was refreshing and relaxing for breakfast. Its bread and pastry counter was particularly rich in varieties and impressive. I had some regrets that I could not try some of the pastries which were so appealing but I was already quite full. However, unlike most breakfast buffet, it did not offer cut fruits like melons, pineapples, or dragon... More

The Bistro at Mariott City Centre Bistro is a buzzes with activity at meal time. The cuisine is Pan Asian and one has to walk around for a while to absorb the menu and pick and choose . Went there for the buffet breakfast and it has one of the better spreads that I've seen. The only downside is the coffee they serve. I drink it black without sugar and it can be a little dull.

We booked a table for 2 at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel City Centre, for the Sunday champagne brunch from Australia months in advance of our travels. We heard it was a good free flow champagne seafood brunch to do in Shanghai. Well that's were it ended. We made our way to the hotel Early on Sunday 8th September, and to... More

As a hotel restaurant, I didn't have high expectations; but that dinner buffet managed to go even lower. The idea is a good one - global buffet with Japanese, Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, western etc. The reality is the same dishes making an appearance every night (not great if you are a hotel guest), incredibly tough meet (I actually couldn't even... Inside the Marriott City Center hotel, this buffet is very popular with guests, but also with locals. It has separate stations for Asian, Western, misc, salads, desserts, fruits. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. So you can "experiment" or play it a little safer with the cuisine of your choice, it all seems to be good.

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
