Brick is a small nominally Italian cuisine place in the French Concession area of Shanghai. It boasts a good selection of well priced wine by-the-glass and good pizza and pasta dishes. Our party of four all enjoyed the dishes from chicken salads to pork knuckle and pasta. The service suffered a little from the typically Chinese serial delivery of dishes.... More

Went to brick this evening for a friend's birthday. Nice little venue, good wine list, decent service, etc. but was overwhelmed by the smoke & following a shower after immediately arriving home to rid myself of the smokey stink on my clothes & in my hair, here I am compelled to write a review. Its a nice little spot &... More

We went for dinner to the brick, nice menu, good selection of beverages, also wine, food was delicious and nicely presented. Great place to go if you look for something different after lots of Chinese meals. It is not very western but kind of in the middle fusion.... Kind service....definitely recommended....

We had an excellent dinner of salmon and chicken. The food was presented artistically and was very tasty. With the music and decor, it felt as though we were dining in Europe. Highly recommend that you consider this restaurant.

My fiance and I went there at lunch time. The place looks great and the menu was interesting but the service was poor and the food average. Given the price we expected better quality. Disappointing!

We were recommend by friends to go to this restaurant and we surely don't regret it! The decor is simple and cosy, the atmosphere is great and my ears were in heaven! Being a jazz fan, I really enjoyed their playlist when dining, it's great to have a break from all the so called lounge music in other restaurant... But... More

Believe it or not we went here twice this week. Unheard of I know. Lovely atmosphere for European cuisine. Reasonable prices, attentive excellent service. Some simple food we enjoyed were ceasar salad, raw tuna, raw scallpos and raw beef. The bread rolls are yummy. Saw many eating lamb so must be good too. Did I mention the live music?

We came here yesterday after walking the streets of Shanghai for hours. We had appointment to meet with a large group for finner, so we settled for a glass of wine before we continue our walk. We were the only customers and had no expectations. Wd discovered that the selection of wines was magnificant. Wine by the glass was limited... More

Have been to Brick a few times and love the atmosphere; however, tonight we were disappointed. The usually outstanding miso cod was a significant step backwards in quality. Also, the four other appetizers we had were only average. Given the price point for the food/wine, we expected better quality. Probably won't go back.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
