The food and service here was very pleasant. We didn’t expect much for the prices but the taste was surprisingly good. It isn’t a fancy four star restaurant but it hit the spot and didn’t set us back much so we were pleased.

Based on the strong TA reviews, my partner and I were very much looking forward to visiting this restaurant. However, the restaurant was not great. The food was average at best. One dish was served with ketchup and mayonnaise (not very authentic), and two supposedly...hot dishes were served cold. Furthermore, the staff were generally unhelpful and rude, mocking us in our attempts to communicate in mandarin... A first having lived in China for >3 months. On a positive note, you are able to view the dishes prior to ordering food - this was very helpful.More

My husband and I had dinner here a couple of times during our last visit to Tunxi old street. The location of the restaurant is easy to find. Nice ambience. Decently priced. Good, fresh local food. Fast service. This restaurant is highly recommended.

They will supply a shortened list of food on an English menu and provide good fast service. Portion sizes are huge and the food is good value.

Huizhou cuisine developed in this region of Anhui Province alongside preservation techniques that relied on the use of salt. As a result some of the most popular and unique dishes here are the cured, pickled, and fermented ones. I very much enjoyed this place, to...the point of eating here numerous times while in the area. The preserved tofu is a real treat, but the menu is extensive. I can confidently recommend the chicken feet, steamed breads, soup dumplings (小笼包), and vegetables.More

This place is on old street, it was just opposite my hotel. We went in around 4pm just before it started to get busy. They give you a table number then you go and have a look at the dishes, you write down the number...of the dish you want and then give it the the waitress, then they bring it to your table. There's a huge choice and you can see exactly what you are getting, we used a translation app to read the signs. We got 10 dishes, the food was mostly good, though the duck was cold. It's a really good place to try things as its so cheep, our bill was only 129y. Would go again.More

Based on the TA reviews I had dinner in this restaurant. I have to say I was very disappointed. Yes you can pick your dishes from the display but the quality was not that good. Restaurant is spacious and clean so that is good but...food is only so so. Wouldn't go backMore

N29°42'37.9" E118°18'16.8" (WGS-84) Lonely Planet and Rough Guide consider this the best and most famous restaurant in Old Street, Tunxi District. It is spread over several dining areas, all replete with ornate stone carving, Qing-style furnishings and traditionally dressed staff. Always busy, the restaurant’s cuisine...lives up to the decor, and choosing is made easier by the second-floor huicai buffet spread of every dish on the menu. This is de place to splash out on Huizhou delicacies. We looked at the huicai buffet in August 2017 and wrote down the five-digit number of our appetizing choices. We handed in our order not knowing exactly what we had ordered. It just looked great, but was it braised chicken or braised pork? Awaiting the surprise, we sat down with a beer. Like all Chinese restaurants, ordered dishes are not served together. We started with the first arrival and one by one, all dishes arrived. The dim sun was excellent, so was the fried pork and chicken dish. The open-face fish was nice, although small fish bones made eating a cautious exercise. All dishes were well prepared and rich with flavours. Staff members did not speak English, but hand signals did the job. Lao Jie Yilóu Shiyé is a huge and crowded restaurant with an enormous choice of fine Huizhou dishes. Not to be missed for their fine Huizhou food. Recommended.More

This is a very plush restaurant considering the low prices (two dishes, a beer and tea for just over £5), with two fountains downstairs, and the service was friendly and swift. Plus, ordering is very easy: just pick what you want from pre-prepared examples on...the side. My herb pancakes and kimchi were both delicious, even better mixed.More

Eat here after dinner time, probably around 8 PM. They was featured in a lot of guide so I insist to give it a try. The location is right at the heart of the old town street. Come only for the food in this famous...mid range priced establishment, don't expect exquisite service, and you'll thoroughly enjoy your time here. Must order is Old Huizhou Stinky Mandarin Fish (古徽臭鳜鱼, 98元) a highly praised dish in Huizhou cuisine and sort of the signature dish in this area. FYI, Huizhou cuisine is one of the 8 major cuisines of China, which originated from Anhui province. The mandarin fish itself can be caught in the Xin'an river flowing just beside the old town. After the skin is scraped off, the fish is salted to preserve the meat before they cooked it. The fish is smelly when freshly caught but after being prepared, cooked, and served on your table, your first bite of the fish will acknowledge their mastery of the dish. Its meat tender and well-seasoned with the sauce, the Chinese who came to Tunxi 屯溪 (Huangshan City 黄山市) know this is a must-try dish in all Hui cuisine restaurant in Old Town. Other menu that I order is braised pork, this is also quite delicious. I also order another vegetable dish, but after a good 20 minutes or so the vegetable dish still not coming, my hungry tummy already quite satiated so we just cancel that dish. For 2 menu that fulfill 4 person (both dishes came in quite a big portion) the tab only came out at 190 元 which is quite surprising. Service is only average, with some customer sometimes being unattended at times, but still okay. Just call them, don't expect them to be aware of what dishes that hasn't been served yet.More

The food we ordered were pretty good, including the bamboo shoots, spicy beef, and the pancakes. However, we were told that the restaurant only has one pair of fork and knife and it is reserved for serving a certain dish so we cannot have it....When asked why they do not have forks and knifes, the waitress said they will borrow them from somewhere when a tour agent notifying them ahead of time. Since we just walked in on our own, they didn't prepare any for us. So pack your own fork and knife if you are not going with a tour group and haven't mastered the chopsticks.More

Just about the 1st shop house at one end of the Old Street. Interior is neat, not over crowded with tables and chairs, and clean. Staff polite. Among other dishes we ordered their signature dish, a chicken in a pot. It was quite tasty but...something was missing......Well the head, neck, feet, and wings were there, but I sensed that a noticeable part of the thighs and fleshy body parts were absent. I then realised why the waitress serving the dish was so keen to help us break up the chicken even before the dish was put on the table. The chicken dish/pot was RMB 88 or 98. We did not make a fuss. The remaining dishes did not impress us. But, like most places in China (outside the big cities) the bill was very reasonable, despite being on the top tourist street in town.More

Located next to the restaurant Mei Shi Ren Jia, and I understand they have the same owner. The difference is that here you first sit down at a table and they give the menu. Further, almost the same. You fill out a special form, give...it to the waitress and ... you bring your food. With alcohol, the same story as in Mei Shi Ren Jia, so we drank tea. Tea is wonderful, however, as all the dishes.More
