It is a tradition to visit Bracarense when I am in Rio de Janeiro. It is a busy bar that serves delicious draft beer (chope) and snacks. We had a few pastel to go with the beer. It was great.

Local beer bar - 10 minute walk from beach. Cold beer and favorite for locals. Rating based on food which was good but not anything special. Food was not memorable for such a well located beach bar.
What a great little bar this is in Rio, fantastic atmosphere, service with a smile, cool beers and great food. Would definitely recommend if your in Rio.
I have visited this bar in Rio de Janeiro multiple times and it never disappoints. The chopp is good and so are the appetizers. We had empadas, pastéis and bolinho de feijão. Great time with friends!
I've been to this bar (boteco) a few times through the years and it's a classic. Cold beer and snacks is what you go there for. I also tried the "Pernil Sandwich" which was surprsingly good.
Bar Bracarense is a typical and informal “boteco” which offers delicious food, from appetizers up to an entire meal. It’s recommended for breakfast and lunch. Many types of bolinhos (deep fried fritters) and other tasty finger food (petiscos), sandwiches stuffed with pork meat “pernil” (roasted...pork leg)and cheese, and many other things. They serve one of the best bier in town in glass “chopp” or smaller “garotinho”. Passion fruit caipirinha is a piece of cake! Every time I’m traveling to Rio, I go there. A genuine Carioca spot in the upper class district of Leblon, it’s a must to go, even every day and you won’t get bored! Obrigado pessoal!More
Had an amazing passion fruit caipirinha and the Chopp is cold, staff is amazing, always there, prawn and cassava cake a dream, and also Copacabana sandwich
Brazil is famous for the small bars called botecos, a way of life in Rio. This is an old place famous only for been an old boteco. That’s all. The place is uncharming, service is poor, lack of proficiency in any foreign language. The menu...is small and food not special. Although the place is almost 60 years old the owner did not put a penny back in the business.More
Nothing special to write about this place. The atmosphere was okay, but the waiting staff were more into their football than serving tables (so don’t go on game night). The menu is very local, so much so we had to get the translator out to...work out what to eat - which is a rarity given that my partner and I have done fairly well without in the last couple of weeks. There isn’t a lot of options for gluten free, and my partner is one, so she went for the only dish there was. I had over-ordered by mistake (spare ribs and a sausage dish were two massive plates) and we can safely say the portion sizes were good. Just a no frills local bar, but the bill was quite expensive.More
This animated bar serves up traditional finger food known as salgadinhos, always excellent. Try the "bolinho" with shrimp and catupiry cheese, they are famous for it. This is truly a carioca institution. Great cold beer and good service.
Bracarense or Braca for locals offers delicious food. My preferred dish is the bolinho de feijoada. The atmosphere is vibrant with locals chatting and drinking their supper cold beers or caipirinhas.
Great chill out space and the food was amazing. Had the pork sandwich and some of the meat and cheese pasties. Read the other reviews to learn how to say the dishes in Portuguese if you need to. Only ordered one Caipirinha but it was...super strong and I’m usually a heavy drinker!More
Any time of day, either for breakfast, lunch or dinner or just to have a drink and chill... this is my favorite neighborhood hangout in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Great sandwiches, cold Brahma beer and good service. Place has small tables but they accommodate large groups without problems. Best sandwiches in Rio de Janeiro.
This bar should defintely be on the top of your 'pubs list in Rio'. It offers very good service, a varied range of brazilian traditional food, delicious drinks, and you'll also find the most happy and friendly vibe in Leblon's neighborhood. To start with, I...would strongly recommend you to order one of their fruit caipirinhas (with cachaça - for me the best on the menu at the moment would be Santo Grau), and then follow by ordering a sample of every "petisco" (sharing bites) on the menu. The best ones in my opinion would be "bolinho de aipim com camarao" (shrimp and mashed manioc balls), "bolinho de feijoada" (feijoada balls), "bolinho de abobora com carne seca" (dried beef and mashed pumpkin balls), "bolinho de bacalhau" (cod balls), "caldinho de feijao" (beans broth), "coxinha de frango com catupiry" (shredded chiken and catupiry cheese dumpling), "empada de camarao com catupiry" (round pie filled with shrimp and catupiry cheese), and please do not leave without trying the "pastel de queijo" (cheese pastry) and the "pastel de carne" (meat pastry). All of these or any combination of this selection of starters, will be a great food experience. If you're not very much into sweet and sours drinks, like caipirinha, just order a sample of their best cachacas - would recommend sampling "havaninha" and/or "werneck". Also, if you have some more room to spare for more food, you can't miss the "sanduiche de pernil" (its a special cut from the pork which serves as stuffing of a very tasty sandwich). And, if you would really like to live like a local, you should ask the waiter if they can make the "sanduiche de pernil" with pineapple. It's a great flavour, very much like Brazil. Other than this, the "linguica mineira" dish is also quite traditional in Brazil. I suppose you'll have to go back at Bracarense for more, right? Enjoy, guys. Any questions, be my guest.More
