I am definitely coming back to this place. We were a group of four and we shared mixed grilled seafood and were very pleased. It's a gem of a restaurant and a step back in time with its what I understand are the original Portuguese blue ceramic tiles and balusters.

Rio Minho is one of the oldest restaurants in Rio de Janeiro. It is also one of the best. I was there for the fourth time and will keep coming back. There is indoor (expensive) and outdoor (more reasonable) seating. I recommend the moqueca capixaba. the half portion was more than enough to feed me. I have also had the... More

off in a corner of Centro, it has a welcoming azulejo wall in the dining room. sit upstairs and you can see all the plates being served below. attentive waiters who tell you that the plates are individual. don't be fooled, they are enormous - sometimes for 3 people. i shared a shrimp risotto that was superb. the marisco plate... We tried this because it was recommended in the tourist guide for good seafood, and interesting premises in the Portuguese style with lots of tiles. We had lunch and it was a bit of a struggle. It was the only place in Rio where my barely existent Portuguese was better than the waiting staff's non-existent English. A shortened (about 6... More

This is a very good restaurant for a business lunch as the interior is not too large and relatively quiet. The wood panels wall remind me of an older classic restaurant setting. The food is very good and some items are available in two person portions. The service is very attentive.

The soup Leão Veloso is great and you can see that there is a concern about the quality of the dishes. One time I ordered a grilled octopus with rice and broccoli, when the waiter was delivering the dish, he realized that they did the octopus accompanied by "rice with broccoli." Before I could say anything he apologized and made... More

This is the oldest restaurant in the Rio, having been founded in the nineteenth century. Among its illustrious regulars, one can quote the Baron of Rio Branco, considered the father of Brazilian diplomacy. This restaurant breeds history. From the colonial townhouse to the blue Portuguese tiles on the wall, everything makes you feel as if you were travelling through time.... More

This restaurant is a very traditional one in the city. It has more than 120 years old. The speciality is sea food and you can taste real brazilian food there, but the cost-benefit is not good. The restaurant is a little expensive for what it offer, specially regarding the beverages.

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
