We had been to this restaurant 25 years ago, and it had impressed me a lot back then. But on arrival, in a hidden platter in Copacabana, with a very simple entrance, almost a garage, we would give up. Luckily we did not. And we had one of the best gastronomic experiences of our life. Note the wine list, practically... More

Using TripAdvisor as a guide we chose this restaurant as our only meal out in Rio and Wow we were not let down. Having had Bacalhau in Portugal we were most impressed to have the quality exceeded here. Yes, Rio is pricey, but half portions are all you need for one and not one of the 5 dishes we had... More

Alfaia is one of the highest rated restaurants on Copacabana beach, which shocks me. We went here for lunch, with hopes that it would live up to it's reputations and were bitterly disappointed. To begin with, it is incredibly overpriced, with half portions that are hardly affordable ranging from 60 to above 100 reais. The waiters weren't particularly accommodating. Despite... More

This is a cosy neighbourhood restaurant with delicious cod dishes and a friendly atmosphere. We arrived early for lunch and the place was full shortly afterwards. The lunch specials were a good value.

We had lunch at Alfaia today - picked from TripAdvisor before we left Australia. Had thought about going for dinner, but not so sure of walking the streets in the dark so had lunch instead. Lovely restaurant with great feel, attentive staff, good English and interesting menu - obviously Portuguese inspired. I had the cod with garlic, onion, olives and... More

The Alfai is a family owned restaurant, that specializes in Cod dishes, but they do offer other choices. The ambiance feels like a cozy New York Italian bistro, but with a Brazilian flair. The staff is very attentive and friendly. They have an excellent selection of wines, I chose Miolo Reserva, a Brazilian Merlot that was nice. As in all... More

The Scene: We came across Alfaia from its positive reviews on TripAdvisor and the fact that it was near our hotel in Copacabana. Positives: The food was very good, the bolinho de bacalhau being one of our firm favourites in Rio. The wine list was good and pretty reasonable - we had a Brazilian Riesling which was a pleasant surprise.... More

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
