We were seated indoors upon request on a warm Thursday night with no advance booking. Pleasant welcome. Our table was set for 5 even though we were 3. At times we had a little difficulty hearing but not a serious problem. We decided on the...More

The Balkan-inspired selection of small plates is excellent, and the variations upon traditional recipes only improve them. The atmosphere is great (overhanging plants are a great touch), and the staff is friendly and children are welcome. We'll be back!

My friend and I tried this restaurant on for Happy Hour because we had heard great things about it. I was very disappointed in the food (heavy and bland). The pricing for dishes that had low cost ingredients caused sticker shock (and, as a foodie,...More

It's different enough to be of interest but accessible/recognizable not to be daunting, and the especially friendly and understanding staff is happy to help you sort through the options. Sunday brunch is expansive and fun with an all-you-want-to-try option reasonably priced.

We like Ambar in Clarendon, Arlington VA because of the superb service and neat ambiance. As a vegetarian I do not have many choices at Ambar but invited friends always found a dish to enjoy. Booking for dinner is recommended, the restaurant is very busy...More

we are frequent visitors to Ambar, having visited the location in Barrack's Row for years. The Balkan cuisine is very unique and tasty. I would recommend the Balkan Ka-Bob appetizer with the fries. For brunch, get it with a fried egg on top - delicious!

We love this Balkan "all you can eat" restaurant. Highly recommend going with a group of friends so you can try almost all the dishes by sharing them, which is the best value. The Clarendon spot has a one price food menu, the DC restaurant...More

My wife and I were visiting DC and someone in the neighborhood recommended Ambar's downstairs bar/restaurant. We can't recommend it highly enough-the food was delicious. We shared the sautéed mushrooms, cauliflower with bean purée and a pork slider. This doesn't convey the depth of interesting...More

The food at this restaurant is very good. I had the "BALKAN EXPERIENCE" for $35 which is an unlimited amount of small plates from anything on the menu. The wait staff worked very hard and kept up with all the different orders. My biggest complaint...More

Really good food, excellent location and extremely friendly wait staff, many from Eastern Europe with great knowledge of the Balkan food. Although Clarendon is mainly a youthful crowd, very family friendly and the staff are always wonderful to our young daughter and puppy! The brunches...More

Description
Our aim is to put together the finest products of the New World and Old World for your dining pleasure. Perennially on the edge of great empires, the Balkans owes much of its food culture to its history, geography, and climate. The term Balkan is generally believed to come from the Byzantine word meaning: "a chain of wooded mountains." With a desire to introduce Virginia to cutting edge Balkan cuisine, we created a dining space that will delight and indulge the senses. Primarily featuring "small plates," Ambar also offers wines and spirits from the Balkans not often experienced by the American diner. Ambar showcases the best dishes from the Balkan Peninsula with a modern twist. These dishes are presented artfully, with modern combinations that deliver the flavor profiles in a unique way. Serbian natives Ivan Iricanin and Uros Smiljanic developed the menu with the help of Executive Chef Dejan Pilovic .
