It was our first anniversary and it was a special meal. I asked a couple I met at the farmers market where the best place to eat was and they told me to make a reservation here.

We have visited Barter theater a few times but had never eaten at The Tavern. It is a wonderful building built in 1779 with a great atmosphere. The staff was very friendly, our server Ashley was great. The food was some of the best I’ve...More

Wonderful dinner. Had the filet medallions. Gracious staff, attentive without hovering. Historic with the creaking floors. Downstairs and upstairs dining rooms with a small bar area.

Why does a German restaraunt have the best filets in the southeast? Who cares. Try the stuffed filet or black and blue medallions. This place never disappoints.

The food was very good but our service got a little "iffy" toward the end of the meal. But overall, it was a very pleasurable experience.

The Food and Service are VERY GOOD.... They are located on Main Street near the Washington County , Virginia Courthouse..... The only drawback is the limited parking, so choose your dining time carefully, don't go at the NORMAL times...go a little early.

The stuffed filet is one incredible steak! Other menu items are also very good. Rustic atmosphere in a historic building. Servers are friendly and attentive with knowledge of food prep and customer favorites. Reservations needed for groups of four or more, especially on weekends.

Had an excellent meal at the Tavern for my birthday. Escargot in small puff pastry was wonderful. The salad dressing, a garlic parmesan, was mind boggling good- sweet and spicy. Had the lamb, prepared perfectly with wonderful presentation. We topped the meal off with a...More

As I recall, the portions weren't particurally large. My wife and I both had a selection from the German dishes and they were great. The management is very friendly and I'm sure that they'd agree to sharing anything. I'd... More

Most of the dishes would be plenty to share - if you ordered an extra salad and/or another side. However, according to the menu - there is a $10 share fee per plate / which I did not appreciate. My wife and I also share at... More
