Shady Grove is one of my go-to comfort food restaurants in Austin. Great food. Great service. Great location. My favorite is the Chicken Fried Steak. It's big enough to share between two people if you're not very hungry. We usually get it with two Jalapeno Twice Baked Potatoes as the sides to make two full meals out of it. For... More

The place rocks!!! Great place for taking kids. Here is what we ate: Chips & Queso A Fountain Diet Coke A+ Burgers A Hatch Chile Grilled Chicken A Twice Baked Potato A Service A+ Eat outside if possible. My kids loved the bathrooms that were built into Airstream Trailers, and they are located outside!! Highly recommend this place!!!

Surprised in my 11 years of coming to Austin I had not eaten at this Austin institution. The inside was cozy on a chilly night though I was sad to not be able be at the outside dining area. My group all had different things from meatloaf, BBQ, to my own BLT sandwich so it is a good place if... More

The Grove is a time machine located the nexus of a mid century fishing lodge and home-style west Texas cafe. Sitting by the fire with the unique chili infused truck-stop meatloaf, and a local cold beer makes for a nostalgic time with friends or that special loved one. They have been here since 1992 and are becoming an Austin tradition... More

Interesting selection of mostly Tex-Mex selections. Had a meatloaf with chili on it that was quite tasty. It had gotten cooler out so we weren't able to sit outside with a baby. Looked like it would have been fun-outdoor movies??

Let me just say four words: VEGGIE CHILI FRITO PIE!! Always fantastic, even though spicy, a side of sour cream can fix that for a wimp like me! I get it with NO Jalapeños or Onions, but you can have them on yours! This dish is also available with their regular meat chili, but that is not for me. A... More

The green chili queso fries were absolutely delicious. The hamburgers were cooked perfectly. And the place is so kitschy and adorable, too! Will def go back tomorrow again for lunch!

Good food. Good service. Super people watching. Cold iced tea. Empty plates when finished. Relaxing atmosphere. Not too noisy. Great place to spend an afternoon catching up with great comfort food.

Having been to Austin many times, we're always looking for a classic place that we haven't fit in yet, while also returning to our favorites. Since we had never been to Shady Grove, we gave it a try. The rambling set up, including great shaded outdoor spaces, was fun, and the bustle of the place reflects its popularity. We tried... More
