Is an older restaurant, but clean and friendly service. I was rather surprised at the salad bar and expected more variety, etc. Overall good food for the price.

Great variety on salad bar. Chicken fried steak was ok. My husband enjoyed the salad bar and soup. We enjoyed the variety on the salad bar.

I've eaten here several times over the years & the food is OK, but the restaurant on a whole is dark & dingy. I don't like to be in such a dark place that I can't see if it is clean or not. The food...More

Hi Weazy, I hope you come try us again soon. We have been cleaning and painting and refreshing many parts of the restaurant. It's not a whole lot brighter, but we did lighten a couple places on paint and made sure we have all new...More

Another reviewer said this place reminded him of the old Steak & Ale. I totally agree. But it took me back to a time when going out to eat was a big thing with the entire family. This place also had old-time service and respect...More

We have friends in Abilene, and during our occasional visits there, we like to eat at the Towne Crier. The food is good, with a lot of variety. And we really enjoy the soup and salad bar. Service is very good. Will stop in again...More

Amazingly good steaks. They have fish, and it is very good, but you waste your time going to this place for anything but a steak. OK, I have eaten the fist more than once, but when you can't find a steak at Golden Corral, come...More

Thanks for the nice review! We have been repairing and fixing up the old order board so people can enjoy it for many years to come. We do want people to try the chicken fried chicken and other things though too :)

We ate here at lunch. We both had the Chicken Fried steak and it was pretty good. Good salad bar, but the best was the yeast Rolls. Great!

This restaurant seems to have a good local following, but I am not sure why. No complaints on the staff but the décor, menu, etc. has not changed much over the many years and I consider the food below average.

Thanks for your review ERL972. I hope you will come try us again sometime. I took over the restaurant on November 1 and we are working hard to make things better. Expect to see some new menu items and new preparation techniques soon!

This reasonably priced steakhouse has been in Abilene for many years. It is always busy, and the soup and salad bar is very good and the entrees are okay. The tables always feel greasy, and I wish it were cleaner. Having said that, however, I...More

Family owned steakhouse that just celebrated our 50th Anniversary! Well known for our chicken fried steak, hot fresh rolls with butter, and soup and salad bar. Yes a salad bar still exists in town! Towne Crier Steakhouse opened for business on February 18, 1966. The highest priced steak dinner was priced at $1.39! Neil Fry opened the restaurant and long time owner Dwight Aston started here in 1977. Rhonda Williams bought the restaurant in 2015. We are also known for our Chop't Steak, Chicken Fried Chicken, Chicken Strips, Kids Meals, made from scratch desserts and much more !
