Our guide said he could eat 50 skewers. My question: WHY? In a city known for great beef, pork, seafood and vegetables, at this restaurant you get slivers of unremarkable filling in breaded skewers. The big gimmick is the prohibition on double dipping in a...tin of sauce. Nothing at all to write home about.More

It is cramped and crowded because the food is delicious and delightful. This is a fabulous way to experience local Osaka culture. There are multiple locations so if this one is too busy there is a new one in Shin-Osaka station. For people with a...large appetite, you should probably use this place as your first couple of courses and top up elsewhere for the rest of your lunch or dinner. This was the only comment I received from someone in my group.More

Very fun experience. Conveniently close to the tower and across a souvenir shop so you can eat lunch after you do your shopping! The staff was very friendly and spoke English. There was also an English menu. For kushikatsu first-timers, there is a box of...sauce on the table.DON’T DOUBLE DIP. It’s stated explicitly through a number of signs. They give you some cabbage as an appetizer and it’s actually pretty good when dipped in the sauce. We got the beef tendon which was in a miso sauce and was SO TENDER. Would get again. We also ordered the chefs choice of kushikatsu which is what I’d recommend if you have 3-4 people and want an assortment. It’s basically a variety of items that are deep fried and on skewers that you can dip in the sauce. There are quite a few vegetables for the vegetarians. There is a guide to what’s what. Half of the fun is figuring out what you’re eating. I liked the rice balls best. Overall a clean place with friendly staff and close proximity to a tourist attraction.More

The original kushikatsu (fried skewers) in Osaka. Excellent and reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and there is an English menu. Ordered the basic set which comes with a stewed beef side dish and ramen. Side dish was great. Skewers are the highlight. Can be shared...if not hungry. Must try when in Osaka. Do note this is a chain so you can visit other branches as well.More

I waited for almost an hour to get in. It was worth the wait tho. Kushikatsu is one of the most famous dishes in Osaka. It’s the variety of deep-fried food. The store is pretty small, the chefs are nice and friendly, the food is...super duper awesome. There’s an English menu available as well as the eating instructions.More

This is the most famous Kushikatsu chains and iconic restaurant in Osaka. A bit touristy for Japanese and foreigners So i thought i'd try this place out after 25 yrs. When i lived in Osaka back then Shin Seikei was thought as a dangerous area...with all the homeless and an active red light area. People would avoid this area and Tennoji area. Wow what a change now. It's a major tourist attraction and is actually one of the most colorful places in Osaka at the edge of Den Den town. Some prostitute home/love hotels are now tourist hotels There is a line up all the time at this location but it goes fast. Instead of ordering a set meal for about 1700 Yen, we ordered individual items from the cheapest menu section which was about 105 Yen for each skewer. You do many rounds and it more fun like being in an izakaiya. We ordered beef, garlic chicken (very good), renkon (lotus root), Yama imo (mountain potato), mochi (rice cake), tsukune (ground chicken), sausage/cheese, asparagus, etc........ it came fairly quickly and perfectly lightly battered. We also ordered o'nigiri for 350 Yen and an order of beef tendons stew 350 Yen (good but small portion). Seafood and shrimp much more pricier and didn't seem worth it. Ordered 3 rounds....... unlimited cabbage... and remember not to double dip !!! use cabbage as spoon if you need more sauce on the kushi. Everything is also explained in English so you should have no problem. Good experience but there are cheaper options or even all you can eat options nearby or in Osaka which will be cheaper. Note, one of the most famous and OLD SCHOOL kushi katsu places is in the older arcade 5 min away but huge line ups. More authentic but Daruma is more comfortable to sit. So go where ever - you will enjoy any of these places. Cross the Tennoji zoo and you are in the heart of Tennoji shopping are. Lots there within 15 min walk..... gochisosamaMore

A local must-eat in Osaka but please don't eat it everyday as I am pretty sure that it is not healthy at all. We ordered a place of 15 skewers to share between me and my wife and some of the better ones include the...asparagus, beef, lotus root, quail egg and meat ball. The kind of food that you just have to eat once per trip and not rave about it.More

The service was fast and good. The menu was not so easy to understand. I ordered a set of 9 skewers. The food came very fast and the experience was fun for the first few sticks. After the first few, everything tasted the same to...me. Also, since this place only served the skewers, my taste buds got bored quickly and the only thing i wanted was more cabbage. It's true that the prices are very reasonable. However, after reading so much about Kushikatsu Daruma, so, my expectation was high at the time.... i must say that i was a little disappointed. I'd say this place is more for a snake but not a formal meal.More

We passed this famous Osaka chain restaurant and saw that the queue was not long so we decided to try . It was around 4 pm in the afternoon. We ordered the 15 pieces combo. The waiter asked us where we come from and after...we told them that we are from Australia, they gave us an English menu and explain to us about the etiquette of eating Kushikatsu. Our boys loved the fried selection and decided to order second of their favourite ones . Definitely a good experience but certainly cannot have them regularly for health reasons.More
