I was long overdue some good Italian and after searching around I found Trattoria Macedonia Yuki. Although it was about 2.6 km from my hotel it was very much worth the walk. Upon entering I was soon greeted by the owner, Yuki. He was very...friendly and showed me an extensive menu with so many delicious dishes it was difficult to choose. He explained the various types and patiently guided me through the various dishes. I decided on the tagliatelle with a tomato sauce and beef cheeks. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauce had a wonderful depth and taste, and the cheeks were amazing, very tender and wonderful flavor. Reflecting on the meal and the experience, it was less like eating at a restaurant and more like Yuki inviting you to his home and preparing you a delicious meal. You can really taste the care and passion Yuki puts into his cooking. It was truly a special experience and I hope to return soon. Highly recommend this wonderful trattoria!More

We escaped Tokyo for a weekend in Kyoto and picked Trattoria Macedonia Yuki based on reviews. The food was delicious- lots of authentic Italian flavours ( we had the bruschetta- caprese salad - Gorgonzola penne and the beef cheek ragu- alll were delicious!!!! A very...small restaurant Yuki is delightful- really passionate about what he does and really interested in making you feel welcome - without over doing it. We had dinner for 2 and a bottle of wine - and prices are really reasonable- food is fabulous and Yuki is delightful- we will definitely go backMore

I have spent 6 weeks in Kyoto trying different restaurants and this was my favorite. Seafood pasta and Rigatoni Bolognese are delicious. Chef Yuki is talented, friendly and generous. He wore a mask each time I visited. It was a 15 minute walk from my...apartment but well worth it. (There were many restaurants nearby.) Best to book in advance.More

Came here couple nights ago, the food is great as advertised, prices are reasonable, and Chef Yuki is very friendly - so why only 3 stars? My biggest concern is that he did not seem to be taking coronavirus seriously enough. When we arrived, he...quickly asked us (though kindly) to remove our masks as it may 'scare other customers.' This instantly bothered my wife (who's Japanese) and I. First off, you never see restaurants dictate this sort of thing towards customers, its not like we were doing anything rude or inappropriate. Besides, we were of course going to have to take them off sooner or later anyways to eat. Secondly, I'm not sure if he is just completely out of the loop or what, but most people nowadays actually feel more reassured when others are wearing masks, they do NOT get more worried. However, us getting irked is not the reason why I'm taking points off. As the number 1 rated place on TripAdvisor, this place obviously gets their fair share of foreign customers (even in this current environment it seems), including that night when we were there, there was a couple who came from France. France, like most of Europe, as most people are aware, is considered as an area of high alert by many countries. Not only does the restaurant have just one menu which is touched by all patrons, Yuki seemingly tends to take selfies with foreign customers - that kind of close interaction is of course usually totally fine (if not awesome), but in this current environment where distancing is encouraged? Especially since he himself does not wear a mask. It poses a risk to himself and other customers, because its already proven one can be Covid19 positive without feeling any symptoms (see NBA players). Finally, there is a good amount of reviewers who praise Yuki's ability to run the place all by himself, make no mistake, it is impressive; however it really isn't too ideal for the chef to be balancing handling cash (since that is one of the dirtiest things, hence why China went great efforts to disinfect and even quarantine them) whilst going to cook back and forth right now. I honestly really hesitated writing this, and hate that I have to post it - because I truly do believe Yuki has no bad intentions, he's a genuinely nice guy and his cooking as mentioned, is great. However, I hope that he understands businesses have to adapt when the circumstances change, and I have no choice but to unfortunately take points off because its too important.More

I was very keen on visiting a restaurant that wasn't busy or crowded. As soon as you enter, Yuki, the host/chef made us feel so welcome. The menu is in a scrapbook form of photos with its description in Japanese but no need for any...translation as it all looked delicious. We had a trio selection of bruschetta (blue cheese with honey, chargrilled vegetables and tomatoes) and a Caprese salad. Simple, but amazing. We chose a gorgonzola penne, arriabiatta penne and spaghetti Napoletana. There was time and effort put into the meals. There was roasted garlic in the arriabiatta which made it yummier and fresh tomatoes. Again so amazing. For dessert we finished off with freshly made tiramisu. If I'm ever back in Kyoto I'll be back here for sure.More

After reading the reviews we decided to book. The place is not what you expect, but that is the beauty of it. 2 tables and 1 counter. Yuki is a superb chef and I’ve never tasted better Italian outside of Italy!! He told us he...goes to this special market in downtown Kyoto for his ingredients. I had the salad caprese and rigatoni and my husband had funghi and tagliatelle. Yuki will cook anything and he really can. The hospitality and food are world class! Thank you Yuki for a very special dinner.More

Went here specifically because the reviews here were so good, and I definitely wasn't disappointed. The restaurant itself is a quaint little place, seating probably a maximum of around 10 people. Although small, it is very cosy and the decor is charming. Yuki, the chef,...host and waiter greeted us, and took his time to explain each dish to us, as well as showing us through the wine. We ordered Rigatoni al forno with bolognaise and pizza which we each shared. Both dishes were excellent, however I would especially recommend the pizza which was by far the best I have ever had. Yuki finished up the meal by taking and printing a photo for us, as well as a complementary shot of Grappa, and then waved us out the door as we left. By far some of the best food, and definitely the best experience eating I have had so far in Japan!More

What a wonderfully cute and kind restaurant, the owner took his time to explain the dishes to us, as they are arranged in the menu like a loving photo album rather than a lifeless chain restaurant. We were able to edit our order to our...tastes if we wanted and the food was definitely the best italian food I have eaten, very authentic and with such kind service! Highly recommend.More
