While enjoying fantastic japanese cuisine during 3 weeks travel in Japan I had cravings for French cuisine on new years day. I didn't have high expectations of a French restaurant in Japan. The food was so so, as expected. But what really bothered me is that they charge so much for very mediocre food and small portions! They charge a... More

We were craving for an escape from Japanese quisine and wanted some good old steak with French fries. Found this 'French' restaurant and its good reviews here on tripadvisor. Oh boy are they wrong. Have these people ever been to a French restaurant? We ordered bread (300y) and butter (100y) to start, but received this after our entrees. It were... More

We had a farewell party at this charming restaurant after three days international conference in Kyoto. People from Australia, USA, Finland, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Portugal, Hong Kong and Japan all enjoyed eating a lot of delicious dishes, relaxing talking, and drinking nice wine and beer. It became an unforgettable dinner for all!! Thank you chef and his lovely staff!!

We have been here in Kyoto for ten days now and have been twice to A la Chalamont. The food has been exceptional, we had Duck and Bouillabaisse as mains and beautiful entrees. It is run by husband and wife and they have created a wonderful atmosphere with good French wines and French music. A very enjoyable experience! Ernst &... More

Three of us frequented this restaurant. We did not care for the Caesar Salad that was not traditional in style, pate was fair, delicious beef cheek, and one omelet. Think we had one glass of wine for the three of us. Cost was about $30 per person and some sparkling water.

If you're looking for a professional, quaint French restaurant near the Kyoto Palace park, look no further. The service is truly beyond reproach, the menu diverse, and the fare genuine. An authentic slice of France...

Do not be fooled by the humble appearance, the service charge or the fact that the restaurant is cash only. This is one of the best French meals you will eat - anywhere. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I also can't wait to return. The food is perfect and the prices are very reasonable. Truly amazing and at... More

I came here on my first night in Kyoto because I craved French food - so glad that I did. The waitress went through the whole menu in English for me giving me individual attention. Along with my drinks I was treated to an selection of amuse bouches which went down very well. I had moules mariniere which was light... More

Staying in Nishijin District

Neighbourhood Profile
Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of the city, it is a district where you can take it at your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many shops selling traditional clothing and goods. Showcasing architecture with sloping roofs and wooden reliefs dating to decades past, the streets in the Nishijin District transport you back in time, making them a joy to wander.
