We had been in Japan for 2 weeks - Tokyo, Kanazawa, Takayama, Kirushiki, Nara, and now Kyoto - experiencing some great authentic Japanese dinner cuisine. While it was wonderful, quite frankly we were getting a bit tired of the 8+ courses and the usual order/presentation...More

Food was beyond superb. Surroundings simple and humble and serene An unassuming serene backdrop for splendid culinary artistry There is a quiet reverence for chef Sakamoto amongst the staff, not forced, just seems like they are full of respect for his skill He himself seems...More

We had a little trouble finding the restaurant but once inside everything was good. Nice views over stream. We sat at the counter and had the special menu. Ever one of the courses was presented exquisitely and the tastes and textures were amazing. The chef...More

Dined here last night, May 16, 2017 and was very pleased. Exceeded my expectations. Each and every dish was outstanding. The staff, including Mr. Sakamoto, could not have been nicer. His English is also excellent. Wonderful, relaxed but refined atmosphere right on a canal. Have...More

Had dinner here while visiting my daughter who is working in Japan. Definitely worthy of flying 5000 miles for a short visit. There are several menus at somewhat different price points but the details are only written in Japanese. We picked the spring and winter...More

My hotel recommended this place to me when we asked for a traditional but casual dinner. I can honestly say that this was one of the best dinners I had in Japan. It's situated in the beautiful street of Hanamikoji Dori, which is worth a...More

This dining experience was by far the best I had in Japan which is saying a lot as Japan is a dining paradise for eaters such as myself! Chef Sakamoto is a second-generation chef having taken over the restaurant from his father and he is...More
