This ice-cream parlour in the heart of Gion is quite camouflaged. You need to open the door to see the shop. They are known for the soy-bean ice cream using roasted soybean flour (kinako). If you are dining in, each person in the party has to order an item. There's definitely a queue, so be prepared to wait. The dining... More

the place located in the beautiful gion area, but it were very secluded and there is no signage whatsoever. so you just need to followed the direction in the internet. we queue for around half an hour, each person should order one menu. the ice cream was so soft and not over sweet, and it served with warm ocha.

I was looking for shaved ice, and picked this spot from the Trip Advisor reviews. Even using Google Maps, I had a very hard time finding the shop, as it was not well marked. I finally took a chance and opened a door, and found it! Based on the other reviews, I selected a brown sugar version of the shaved... More

The ice cream is amazing!!! Much better, less sweet than Tsujiri's parfaits. The dekitate ice cream flavour that day was brown sugar, and it was our favourite. We also each ordered the Japanese parfait and finished it in 15 mins. They also serve complimentary green tea in a pretty kettle. Will most definitely come back again when in Kyoto.

Visited at 6pm, good time to go as very quiet. I had the Kinana Japon parfait and my husband the 3 scooped Kinana Sanshumori. Tasty and interesting but I didn't love. Great if you wanted to try an ice that is a little out of the ordinary.

My friend told us that we MUST TRY the desserts in Gion Kinana before we planned our trip, so it was part of our food itinerary! We had quite a bit of trouble looking for the place though, unless you are armed with a map or GPS or those lucky enough to stumble upon it accidentally to find Gion Kinana... More

Wicked good spot. They have a menu in English and we ate at cafe upstairs. The seasonal strawberry parfait was ridiculous. Pricey but totally worth experience. Hard to find, but a gem in Gion.

2nd and 3rd visit during my this trip to place. The dekitate (freshly made ice cream) is incredibly yummy (melts in your mouth) and the taste is very natural. The flavour changes daily, had the black sesame and green tea flavour for my 2 visits. Also tried their parfaits, one for the seasonal spring menu (Strawberry) and the other the... More

The ice cream is soft and smooth. The sweetness level is just nice with berries and mochi! Despite a small menu selection, the quality does not disappoint. The seating area is on the second floor and you are able to queue on the first floor indoors. This is perfect for cold weather as one does not need to queue in... More

Delicious! We had the Italian Parfait. All orders come with green tea, too. Nice seating area. Going back a second time to try another sweet treat.

Staying in Gion

Neighbourhood Profile
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
