You won't be disappointed, but you can also find the fare here outside Japan. Spanish mackerel was really good. Tuna same as everywhere.

We went there with reservation. Many people had already been waiting at the door. The food is not really extraordinary just don't know why so many people gave such high rating. Small restaurant nice service, reasonable price, but again nothing exceptional to recommend, just a very regular sushi restaurant, personally I don't think it's worthwhile for the long waiting time... Lovely spot with a collection of set menus and conveyor belt options. The staff speaks English and the menu had a myriad of picture options for non-Japanese speakers.

We went there for lunch because of the previous positive comments. It was good, the sushi is fresh. It is easy for tourist who does not speak and read Japanese. They use iPad for customers to order. You can choose English language, so makes live much easier. The service is friendly,

Knowing it would get busy, and my friend and I like eating early anyway, we arrived on a weekday around 5:30 and got the last booth seat around the conveyor belt. We were not dissapointed, this was our favourite sushi of the trip. The portions, freshness, texture, flavour, and value were top notch. Enjoyed everything!

Really great sushi place not far from the main area of Gion. They have a iPad system for customers to select from a variety of sushi dishes. Tempura broccoli sushi was unique and delicious. Cost was reasonable.

We stopped here for lunch and were very happy with the experience. We recommend ordering fresh from the ipad rather than taking from the conveyer belt, it tastes noticeably better. However everything we ordered wss delicious. Especially recommend the crumbed prawn.

Planned to go for dinner in another spot, got lost and so happy we stumbled on this gem. Turns out it's award winning, highly recommended already and reason being, excellent service, delicious, beautifully presented sushi and the best price. Ate two big udon noodle bowls and four portions of sushi (2 pieces each), beers, saki and miso for $15, I... More

We sat in a booth next to the conveyer belt. Beer and delicious sushi! Nothing better! I am picky when it comes to tuna and salmon and they were both very fresh. We picked things mostly from the conveyer belt because we enjoyed that experience, but if you order from the iPad it comes quick too!

I went here because of the many recommendations at TripAdvisor however don't know why this place gets such high ratings - probably because it is largely visited by tourists and not by Japanese. I had to wait in line for 30 to 40 minutes before being seated quite inconveniently close to the kitchen entrance. Ordering was done by iPad and... More

Staying in Pontocho

Neighbourhood Profile
Pontocho
Though small by comparison, Pontocho is one of Kyoto's most spirited and memorable neighborhoods. A narrow street straddling the Kamogawa River, it is Kyoto's busiest nightlife spot. When darkness falls, Pontocho's many signs and lanterns bolt to life, making the area glow with invitations to passers-by to come inside and pull up a chair. Its restaurants and bars sprawl onto the riverbank, providing a friendly atmosphere and delicious food. Verandas are always filled with people young and old crowding tables, biting into hot yakitori or sipping cold beers. It is a culinary heart of Kyoto as much as one of its most laid-back, clamorous, and entertaining evening hotspots. Pontocho has more of an amiable vibrancy to it than an elegant one, attracting newcomers, local veterans, and everyone in between, in casual attire like sneakers and jeans.
