I first came in the afternoon, but I had to come again very early in the morning to get their limited autumn mochi with Japanese chestnut. But the 30-minute waiting was paid off. I can recommend this shop for those who want to try real...More

I was attracted by the long queue in front of this shop when I firstly passed by. Demachi Futaba has been established for more than 120 years and they make very traditional mochi with some seasonal specialties. For example, they have yuzi flavour mocha during...More

After 40 minutes of waiting in line, it was worth it. Never had so good mochi in my life. Even if you don't know much japanese or speak it at all you won't have any problems. The staff knows little bit of english. Or use...More

We were definitely the only non-Japanese people in line which means you know it's going to be good but also presents some challenges. We got by with just pointing and holding up the number of fingers we wanted of each "flavor" which means we guessed...More

Here you can find the best mamemochi in town (and beyond). There's almost always a line but it's worth the wait. Professor Yukawa, the first Japanese Nobel prize, used to love this shop. If you feel like something sweet and you are in Demachiyanagi area...More

In this Mochi-based sweets store is no eat-in space, but you should take the Mochis away and try these at the river side in a sunny day. Best hit is Mame-Mochi( Mochi containing read bean paste and cooked black bean), which all the Japanese customers...More

The mochi at Demachi Futaba are legendary, and rightly so. The staff package up the delicious morsels at a frenzied pace behind the counter but still the place will be evident by the queue stretching down the street. These mochi are extremely substantial and not...More

Visited around 2PM on a weekday, there was no line but I think that the stock for that day is running out soon. Ordered their famous mamemochi, and even though I don't like red bean, this was exceptional. The mochi was very very soft, and...More

No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered

bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and

I believe they are closed Monday (at least that was the sad morning I ran back to get it and it was closed).
