A small restaurant focusing on Tofu (Yuba). The presentation was beautiful, the food absolutely delicious. The entire experience made it one of the best dinners I have had in years.

After walking round nearby lake Takaragaike (beautiful trees, beautiful carp, ducks, turtles), it was lunchtime and a bit of research suggested that Takaragaike Izumi Yuba would be an interesting restaurant to try, and close by. So we chose the least expensive lunch menu, which offered 5 courses for about 2,500 yen and were very impressed by the friendly efficient service... More

I had one of the set lunch specials at 2500yen. A 5 course set featuring mostly the special tofu that is the name of the restaurant. Elegant presentation, just the right amount of food. Service was in English , each course was explained, the service was charming and solicitous. Great meal! Even for folks not mavens of tofu. No credit... More

My husband and I ate here recently while staying at the Kyoto Grand Prince. We were looking to escape the hotel restaurants and didn't have time to go into the city so we decided to check out this place. We found the food to be well-prepared and interesting. We had never had Yuba before. The restaurant offered an English menu... More

We were staying at the Grand Prince Hotel and needed a nearby restaurant for dinner for two around 8pm on a Wednesday. There were no English-language reviews of this restaurant, but the mention of yuba (tofu skin) on Google Translate peaked our interest. We walked in without a reservation and were seated immediately at a simple elegant table. There were... More

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
