I had a great mean at this restaurant. The staff was amazing and efficient, the food great. Unfortunately I went there just before closing time - and they want to close at 22:00 sharp - so I sat there while everybody was cleaning around me.

We had porky loin and tenderloin as well as two enormous prawns. It was all incredible! Wait staff are helpful and speak enough English to help with the menu. Portions are huge. Went here after finding that most restaurants are not open when walking around Gion at about 130-2 pm. The cube is enormous and filled with everything imaginable. This... More

We came back to Kyoto station and the cube to eat after looking around Gion late lunch to find nothing was open yet. The cube and train station are enormous and fun. Food here is great! Service is great! Portions are huge especially being that it is fried. We had both park loin and tenderloin as well as two enormous... More

They have the best Tonkatsu and the Ebi Furai is awesome. And Kyoto Station is so beautiful. You have to go there if you are in Kyoto.

Great pork katsu paired with barley rice. Love the bread crumbs on the outside. Salad dressing is citrusy. There is original sauce and spicy sauce for the katsu. Spicy salt is a bit too salty for me. But then again, Japanese standard is more on the salty side. Original sauce taste good. Staffs eere friendly and service is pretty fast.

Staff did their best to accommodate English speaking guests. Sauces and options were great as well as the miso soup. Unlimited cabbage/miso/rice but initial portions were so large we didn't need more. The best was the tenderloin! Really great place and we arrived around 1730 on a Wednesday and were seated without worry.

Had a late lunch here. The serving of the porkloin is very generous and the sauces, rice and miso soup are refillable. The only thing that i regret is ordering a 300 yen Cole which comes in a glass. The rest of the food and experience is wonderful. The rice if very good and filling. The miso soup is great... More

Not being a great fan of Japanese cuisine other than sushi it was a great meal. The staff tried to be helpful but English is not a strong point. It wasn't obvious for a foreigner how certain things were meant to be eaten but we copied the locals.

This place is brilliant. The pork melts in your mouth and is complemented by unlimited cabbage and rice. You also get to crush your own sesame seeds which makes the flavour even more delicious. We queued for about 15 minutes (visited 8pm) but was completely worth the wait. A must visit if you're out and about in Kyoto.

This meal stood out for us as it was first tonkatsu experience and we were blown away! Grinding our own sesame seeds to make the sauce was a great idea.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
