This was recommended to me by a lady in Tokyo (Tokyo!) while I was queuing for some food. It's totally justified. Just get the seasonal set and enjoy the excellent noodles in simple broth. Get a place on the first floor to enjoy your mesl sitting down traditional style. Expect to queue, and pay around 2,000 yen per person.

One of my favorite meals on my trip. I went to Ginkakuji beforehand and was looking for good food to try in the area. I read in the JR Rail Pass book that this was a good place to try and that they would be opening soon. I went over right as they opened and I'm SOOOOOOO glad I did.... More

I was directed to Myoudai Omen by a friend who works for Baird Beer, an American style craft brewer based in Numazu, Japan. This regional chain is one of their customers and he took my family (and his) here for lunch during our Kyoto visit. This is a great tourist restaurant. What I mean by that is it has a... More

I enjoyed a memorable set dinner at Omen restaurant, with many unusual, interesting and fresh tastes. Udon noodles and fresh vegetables are a speciality but my set meal also included fish and tempura. Impeccable quality and very fair prices. Some English spoken. Located near Ginkaku temple.

This restaurant is at the far end of the traditional street near Ginkakuji. It is famous for noodles and vegetarian food. Excellent and different tastes. A must-eat at place.

Authentic healthy noodle restaurant with parking. In New York, there is branch in lower Manhattan, but this main store is better.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. Long queue outside, but served within half an hour. Udon are really worth a try. Really well done, and the sauce and side servings (tempura) was really nice. I had a japanese stout beer to go with, which was perfect. Price is more than honest. Definitely not a tourist trap, but a very... More

We were staying near by and rather than an expensive meal we asked for a local recommendation and were told of this. We later discovered it was in the lonely planet book too. No reservations but a turn up and eat place Omen is a cute little place with bar and tatami seating. There is an English menu also which... More

Omen is located at the north end of Philosophers walk and offers wonderful soups with udon noodles. I especially enjoyed the tempua which was light, not greesy and reasobly priced.
