Went here and somehow they recommended the boiled version meal for 2. Very expensive and not great in flavor. Meat was good but very small amount and could be better. Seen other reviews with fry pan style which seems like it would be way better.

Not much English spoken here but it didn't matter the menu is all pictures. Decide how much you want to spend and point to the amount and next thing you know it's in front of you! Cold beer, great service and friendly too! If I could find this place again I would certainly dine here again!

After long haul flight and train ride, we decided to have our first taste of Kyoto at Mishimatei. Located across the street next to our hotel ( Royal Park Hotel), Mishimatei is one of the best food choices in this neighbourhood(Karawamachi Sanjo) . Firstly, the service is good. They serve good quality 'sukiyaki' ( grill beef signature dish). Have to... More

A little worn around the edges, but still the best place to experience traditional sukiyaki done right. A bit of unpretentious food theatre -- wave after wave of quality beef done right, cooked fresh before you. You'll carry the scents and memories home, and long for seconds. And thirds.

The restaurant looks expensive according to the menu and price at the entrance but their meat shop section is great and affordable. The best beef we ate in Japan, although there is less fat than Kobe beef which is excellent for health conscious persons. We bought 1200 yen per 100 gram beef and brought half kilo to our friends house... More

This was our first trip to Kyoto, after reading reviews from Tabelog ( Food Reviews among Japanese).I decided to book our Thanksgiving dinner at this restaurant. It can be tricky to get reservations at this place as many reviewers mentioned Enough said, the meats are high quality, the beef sukiyaki is the BEST. Our family are meats lovers; we typically... if you want to experience very good sukiyaki, you've come to the right place. The service is good and there is a certain protocol to follow. Lunch is more affordable compared to dinner.

Mishima-tei serves the best sukiyaki there is. It has perfected it over the last 143 years. You can find beef, vegetables, and fruit (for dessert) of similar quality at upscale supermarkets and in department stores in Japan for a home party at less than half the price you will be charged here. But you will not be able to recreate... More

Simply put, the most amazing sukiyaki I've had in my life, and I love sukiyaki and have tried many places. But the reviews below are right, you really need a local to book for you / take you there. We were lucky that we were on a tour, and our guide called them up in advance for us, spoke with... More
