The staff have all worked in coffee shops in Melbourne, Australian owner. Has that small Melbourne cafe feel. Coffee is delicious and affordable. The staff were probably the nicest japanese people I met during my stay and their English is good. They can also recommend other good coffee places in japan! They're pretty good ad building snowmen too.

Walking from Kyoto Station your nose will be the first to find Kurasu. The aroma of freshly ground coffee beans wafts from the contemporary, light filled shop front. If the first bite is with the eye, on arrival you will definitely be stopped in your tracks. It has been quite commonplace during our travels in Japan that most coffee establishments... More

What a find! The coffee was perfect, I had a flat white which is as good as back home in NZ. The staff were wonderful and great to talk to. A must visit when you arrive or depart from Kyoto station.

As much as I love Kyoto, specialty coffee is hard to find in the city. Kurasu is the place to go if you love coffee. 5 min walk from Kyoto Station, they have coffee from different roasters all over Japan and the world. Baristas are trained in Australia so they understand both the Japanese and overseas coffee sense. All smile... More

Great coffee in the centre of Kyoto. Started the day with a cap, finished it with a couple of iced coffees, all superb. And really friendly, helpful staff!

Best part about staying at APA hotel is Kurasu coffee next door. Smooth, Japanese style coffee, no bitterness, no sugar needed. Friendly staff, too. Would go here again, and again, and again....

Just A quick five minute stroll from the main station at Kyoto this beautiful space is serving pour over and espresso coffee. You can have take away or in house in lovely hand made cups. And despite what trip advisor says, it was open on Monday. Love this place. Great coffee. Great location.

Super close to Kyoto Station providing specialty coffee from all over Japan and espresso roasted by Single Origin Roasters based in Sydney. Hard to find this quantity in coffee in the Kyoto - Kansai region. The location is fantastic as nothing matches near Kyoto Station. Best of all was greeted by the most lovely staff as they were more then... More

We search out our coffee spots on vacation to truly find special places... Overall, Japan has been amazing and Kurasu was a highlight. Only place we have gone to twice. Simple black pour over and it was great.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
