This was the best experience of our week stay in St Petersburg. An amazing meal with two great amuse bouche. Even though we were the only customers in the restaurant we were treated to music from a pianist and singer. With an open kitchen we saw the staff coming towards the end of our meal cleaning everything in the kitchen... More

My wife and I just had dinner at this highly rated restaurant. Although we got off to a weak start with a mis-made martini, Tony Gear, the owner personally made my wife a fresh one that was perfect. Tony is quite a character and it was worth the visit just to meet and chat with him. The food overall was... More

On Sunday my wife and I decided to visit "Old Customs" restaurant . My wife told me that this is one of her favorite establishments and that the restaurant is more than 20 years old. It is really very beautiful, I was impressed when I went inside: brick wall, beautiful and unusual ceilings. The interior with the elegance of Europe... More

This restaurant is just unbelievable, I won't even call it a restaurant , its a true deep experience between taste and love. Food is innovative , surprising and wonderfully created as little art pieces you might be sorry to eat at first. Music is chilling and brain lightning and perfectly matched with the wonderful atmosphere and design. Service is lovely... More

This is a premium restaurant with everything (service, food, atmosphere) excellent but for a price. When I went there, the chef offered complimentary dish to me and my girlfriend. Also, there were free chocolates. Next time I go there, I will stick to hot starters and desserts, as the salads seem to be somewhat too expensive and the prices for... More

What else can I say, but classically delicious! The restaurant is located on the Vasilevsky island, just across the Neva river from the palace square. Wearing winter travel outfit, we hesitantly walked into this top class restaurant with a warm welcome by a gentle doorman, waiters and waitresses. The food quality, taste, service, presentation, and ambiance are perfectly blended to... More

Just across the Neva bridge from the Hermitage, this is not easy to find if you ask for the Old Custom House rather than its Russian name. Recommended by a Russian artist friend, we visited for lunch, when the vast restaurant was quiet. On display are memorabilia from the past, as well as fish tanks with some of the biggest... More

Even without seeing the site of this restaurant, if one was told this building was commissioned by Tsar Peter the Great, one would, perhaps, readily envisage a similarity to The Hermitage or other grand buildings remaining from the era and would anticipate what the Old Customs House Restaurant might be like. The building, however, rather than a palace was a... More

Description
Long recognized as one of St. Petersburg's finest restaurants, the Old Customs House has a superb location in a historic building just behind the Kunstkamera. Popular with wealthy tourists and well fed local businessmen, the restaurant has conservative but attractive interiors and a fairly formal atmosphere, which is no surprise considering the high prices. The owners are British and the head chef is currently Russian, but the menu is very much based on traditional French bourgeois cuisine, with rich sauces, winter vegetables, truffles and foie gras. A few more modern, Asian influences make an occasional appearance, but the highlight is probably the fresh seafood flown in from the farthest corners of Russia (Kamchatka crabs and Sakhalin oysters). The wine-list is similarly robust and reassuringly expensive. The restaurant regularly hosts guest chefs from all over the world, as has been visited by numerous international celebrities, from Prince Charles to the Russian Patriarch.
