Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Been here twice as it was said to be a cut above even Lae Inter. Second time thought our experience would be better but def not. Complete joke of a restaurant. Food was horrible. Ordered sweet & sour pork. It was rubbery. Probably fried then...frozen and fried again. Worst tasting dish ever. The dishes came out slow or things were forgotten. The duck tasted disgusting and stale. The ribs were probably Their only saving grace but it’s a shame that this is one of the higher standards or cuisine in Lae. Staff are poorly trained. They’re slow and constantly have to check in with the kitchen when u ask questions. There are so many of them, a lot of them stand around either staring at you, looking bored or not clearing the tables when they’re full. When we complained to the manager, she blamed the chef which seemed super unprofessional. Horrible dining experience.More

Just arrived Lae today and looked up trip advisor for a place to eat after checking in at the Lae inter hotel. Found this Lae cafe city near by with lots of positive reviews I gave it a try. The place is very clean and...the food lives up to its reputation. I tried the city burger that has many raves review. The portion was generous, and the French fries were excellent. I actually ordered another portion of French fries because I was very hungry and the fries were soo gooooood. A small complaint as the beef patty was a bit salty. I know food in PNG is generally salty, but this one was a bit too much. Would leave a five star if wasn't about this minor issue. Will come back again!More

Lunch with colleagues. Spicy honey fish...very tasty. Was busy at lunch time. Attentive service but meal arrival very staggered. Value for money. Would visit again.

I dined at the cafe on a few different occasions and I was not disappointed. The menu has a variety of western and asian dishes. The portions are a good size and the prices are very reasonable. There is also a selection of deserts. I...did not try however the cheese cake and a selection of cakes looked good displayed at the glass counter. Beers soft drinks tea and coffee are available. The service was fast and the staff where pleasant. I would definitely use the cafe again.More

Within the Lae City Hotel confines. Varied Menu valued priced. Restaurant lacks atmosphere but an ideal food alternative in a city that has limited food choices.Asian fare is tasty and the ribs are excellent. Their health drinks are great and worth ordering.

Bar is good with a nice view of the industrial area below. A bit slow with food. They got my order wrong the first time. They don't off healthy drinks like their sister hotel, the Lae City Hotel. Its a new hotel. They should get...better with time.More

Lae City cafe is based at Lae City hotel. They offer an excellent variety on their menu. Food always tasty. Service is quick and prices reasonable. Only downfall is that the restaurant is always noisy, with no quiet area.

What Lae City lacks in atmosphere it more than makes up for with value and consistency. I love the salmon fettuccine and the ribs are legendary. When they're on the waffles are a great finisher or the cake selection is the beat in town.

Good food as always especially beef brisket. However, ambience during weekend nights is extremely noisy because its a casual resto.

The restaurant is based at the base of Lae City Hotel. Food is moderately priced with a licensed bar. Good range of meals that are served quickly. Staff are friendly and customer serviced focused. Meals are well portioned. Great range of cakes. The restaurant area...is small but quiet busy. If you are attempting to hold a conversation it can be a little noisy so you need to listen carefully. When its not busy its OK. Get in early for breakfast otherwise it can be busy.More

There is one thing you cant complain about is the serving sizes.....if you can get through the Tonys Baby back ribs and chips you are doing very well. Well priced and a large variety of western and Asian style food. The Laksa is very nice...as is the Beef Brisket. The seating is a little down market and sometimes the noise can get overwhelming as a lot of people are crammed into a small place. The bar staff havent got good hearing so be very clear with what you want 'coke often seems to sound like Soda!'More

The Citiy Cafe is a good choice at TopTown / Lae. Located at the basement of the City Hotel, opposite the Post Office it offers a nice variety of asian style dishes. The only disadvantage of the City Hotel is the noisy atmosphere. Don't go...there for a romantic dinner or confidential business lunch.More
