What can I say except this is probably one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences to date in Namibia. Really crap service, inexperienced and chaotic staff not paying attention to anything. Starters were nothing great, overcook squid. Hour and a half later still waiting for the mains, the 210 n$ seared tuna dishes arrived drier than tinned tuna with ice... More

After a number of forgettable meals in Swakopmund this dinner was a delight! Make sure to book 2-3 days ahead as this place is quite popular. Francis (Franco?) our server was great. Loved the Greek salad. Oysters Rockefeller were great. Angel fish sandwich with French fries and coleslaw was good. The kingklip entree was nicely done. The view of the... More

Amazing venue, book in advance they get busy. This is the one place in Swakopmund where we felt the staff were really well trained and they know how to give impeccable service. We found most restaurants didn't have the standards of service that the Tug gives. Food was incredible, mostly seafood, but quite a number of alternatives if needed. Drinks... More

First, this is a popular place so we could not get into the restaurant for dinner the day we arrived in Swakopmund. We had to make reservations for the next evening. The restaurant has a rustic elegance with nice view of the water if you are lucky to get one of those tables (we weren't). We were at first seated... More

Quite expensive but very nice restaurant to watch the sun set over the sea. Nice seating area outside right by the sea or smart boat themed inside restaurant Good vegetarian options and cocktail menu.

As the place is obviously extremely popular due to the views on the sea booking 2 to 3 days in advance is a must. Once you have a confirmation you go there and find yourself in a very narrow corner with a at maximum midrange interested service. No comparison to the enthusiastic staff at Ocean Cellar. The food is o.k.... More

Fine location close to the sea, popular with locals and tourists. Good kitchen, hurried and busy staff, best in town.

We had lunch on the terrace with a nice view over the jetty. Staff was not very friendly or attentive. They seemed not to care at all actually. Fortunately lunch was well prepared. We took the burger and fish and chips. Both were nice. If you don't like coriander (like me) don't eat the salad! It just seems to be... More

Excellent setting, very good menu and Wine list, the staff also very good. But the food was average, tuna was sinuous and coconut kabeljou was completely missing the......coconut. Beware the power of artificial intelligence with the online booking system, we arrived with kids were told our table would be ready ahead of time, unfortunately we were reallocated a table near... Bookings are VERY essential in season, as this is a very popular Restaurant on the Beachfront. We had lunch here with a young child, and even she ate all her food. Food was delicious, and the atmosphere really pleasant.

Description
The Tug Restaurant had first opened its doors during December 1993. Starting out as a small beachfront restaurant on the edge of the wild and mystical Atlantic Ocean, with splendid views onto the iconic Swakopmund jetty, The Tug's popularity has grown as time moved on. Dining areas inside and on the outside deck terrace have been extended considerably, while the restaurant has become a culinary destination for travelers from around the globe. The Tug restaurant offers authentically prepared cocktails, a selection of more than 140 of the finest South African wines, French champagne. Special delights from the wild Namibian ocean include kingklip, kabeljou, lobsters, angel fish and sole, John Dory, local oysters, fresh green Swakopmund asparagus. The richly diverse menu includes stuffed Patagonian squid, prawns, Norwegian salmon, Sashimi tuna. For the carnivore there are tasty cuts of beef and tender lamb, in addition to game delicacies such as Oryx carpaccio or grilled Oryx steak, Surf & Turf. There is a wide selection for the vegetarian and our delicious homemade Spanakopita is a favorite. Both owner partners George Hopking and Brett Southworth believe that no successful establishment should rely solely on its popularity. They engage in consistent attention to quality and freshness of their products, as well as continuous training and motivation of their staff, in order to provide the customer with decent service and an extensive menu and wine list.
