This lovely, homey place was an easy 20 minute walk from the cruise ship in port. Based on previous reviews we arrived at 5:30 to an almost entirely full restaurant full of locals. The menu is in both Japanese and English so no problem there. My husband had the scallop set meal which included miso, radishes, rice, grilled scallops and scallop sashimi. I had the fried pork cutlet set meal. Everything was bountiful, fresh and delicious. While we dined lots of tables turned over. It was clear this is a family place and also a place for students and business people to have a quick dinner before heading home which adds to the home-style vibe. Sumo wrestling on the TV doesn’t hurt! Cash only. Beer and sake. If we lived in Aomori, this would be a regular joint for us, too!

This is a very unpretentious restaurant that serves good home cooked style meals at very good prices. I had the Unagi (eel) which was good and about half the price you pay at a specialty Eel restaurant.

The best eal I ate in Japan. Cozy local place to eat local scallops fried on butter or scallop sashimi.

This reminds me of mom’s cooking restaurant. The restaurant is small but cosy. We chanced upon this restaurant during our 3 day stay at Aomori near the station. Only discovered how famous it is after eating here. There is always a long queue here whenever we passed the restaurant. Their popular dish are scallops. We had butter scallops served in half shelf which are quite tasty. Price is not expensive but not cheap considering we bought very fresh kaisen don at 1 of the supermarket at Aomori station which are a lot cheaper and also very fresh. In our opinion, this place is over hyped but definitely worth a try. There are mainly tourists patrons here.

No fancy place, actually the food has some homestyle-feel to it. They‘re not on display outside, but ask for the grilled scallops. They have a pictured menu in case you can‘t read the Japanese one. The prices are moderate - if you go for raw seafood on rice (“**-don”) you’ll typically end up somewhere between 1,200 and 1,650円, a recommended set with grilled scallops, scallop sashimi, miso soup, rice and some other sides was 2,470円. Good quality for the money!

Had a dinner here around 5 PM while the restaurant still had vacant seats on Monday evening. Scallops Combination Dinner provides sashimi and butter-baked scallops - oh, they are fresh, hearty flavored and sweet. Very popular for both locals and visitors, people were lined up to the sidewalk for their turns to seat and dine, by the time I left the restaurant around 5:40 PM. Average interior décor. Not spacious in terms of dining space.

We visited the restaurant for 2 consecutive nights. The food is fresh and dinner set was great. Both cooked and fresh scallop was tasty. The grill scallop is a bit salty for us but to have with beer it is fine. Fried fish is also not to miss. Overall experience is great with reasonable price.

We started having conversation with an American-Japanese whilst at Mt Hakkodan, and suggestion was given to try Restaurant Osanai, since we had inquired into having traditional comfort food. It's a stone's throw from JR Aomori Stn. Walk in and you're greeted by a gamely lady, probably in her 50s...in fact the other 3 were also similar vintage. A quick scan of the room : elderly-looking clientele, simple furniture, a TV in the corner blaring away with a Japanese game show, comic books to read whilst waiting...all smacked of a homey casual bite place. The menu is reasonably extensive, with teshoku sets. But what catches our eye are the prices : they are lower than we've seen for similar elsewhere. The sukiyaki set iis selling well tonight (it's cold outside), and the scallops set is highly recommended. I scan around the other tables, and the katsudon is envogue too. The meal is tasty, albeit simple. And the matronly ladies remind you of mothers who are feeding their brood, because they are talking to you on each pass by the table (lotsa regulars it sounds like; which is nice and speaks volume for them). Cheq-koo prease. And it comes to ¥2345 > 2 full sets and a large bottle biru. Nothing Beats a great priced meal at a traditional mom-n-pop joint.

This restaurant is famous for its scallop that you must try its fresh or cooked scallops. Unfortunately when we arrived at the restaurant at night all fresh scallps were sold out that we could only take the cooked scallops dish. It was crowded that we needed to wait for about 10 minutes but it was well worth the time. There were many local people as well as Taiwanese tourists. The prices are reasonable and it takes 5 minutes walk from the JR statin station. It closes quite early by 9pm that if you want to have dinner there you should go there as early as possible

Look for the big scallop painted on the yellow about 100 meters from the train station in Amenity Street. The small but well patronized eatery provides great food and good value. Beware...credit cards are NOT accepted.

Dinner here was amazing, very easy to find from the train station, the hosts are very friendly and service was really quick. The food was delicious and great value - the set meals are great and they have the menu in several languages for tourists.

We found this place by chance and later realised it was highly ranked by TA. We must say the service rendered by the lady was perfect despite her limited command of English. We ordered the seasonal fish soup and some Aomori culinary specialties. Worth going for a try if you want fresh hot food!

We stopped here for lunch on a cold snowy day. The katsu curry was warm and comforting, and the ringo gyoza were delicious. It was quiet when we went, and the lady running the place was very nice. Good for cheap, tasty food in a comfortable atmosphere.

After reading several reviews in the Tripadvisor, this place was one of the must-visits during my trip to Aomori. However, this place was probably the only disappointing place among the recommendations I followed. That said, the butter scallop was fresh and worth ordering at this place as well as the fried scallop. The price is low to moderate.

Osanai was listed in the "Oden Guide" at the train station, so we gave it a try. It turned out that oden was just one item on a very large menu. The oden had a very tasty dipping sauce with miso and ginger, but the oden itself was nothing special. We also had a grilled sanma. The meat had turned black in some places. The taste was still OK, but it was a bit dry. The price was very low, however, so we didn't mind that much. The local aomori sake was great. It was a very smooth karaguchi. The waitress told us that some local people drank it with a hint of salt on the rim of the glass (or masu, in this case). That was an interesting way to drink it, but we preferred it plain.
