Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

About a 10-minute walk from Aomori Station. A sushi restaurant just off the main street. Lunch visit recommended by local people. I had a special nigiri for about 3,900 yen. There was no special stuff, but sea urchin, salmon roe and toro were just delicious. It is a popular restaurant with many customers.

Excellent restaurant. Visited during our port day sailing the SilverSea Silver Nova. Excellent Sushi and Sashimi. Wonderful staff and they speak English. Highly recommend.

Very cute entry off a smaller alley, when you enter, you find the long sushi bar as the main feature of the dining room. Our family of three got seats at the bar, and ordered sets, both sushi and sashimi sets, served traditionally, rice well-flavored, fish was super fresh. Nothing to blow your socks off, but definitely good quality--we ordered a few pieces extra uni sushi. What was fun was that they serve directly onto the bar counter, without an extra plate or pedestal, which I had never seen before and found really cool.

A decent sushi bar with a picture menu if you don't speak/read Japanese. Upscale, cozy and not very busy (at least when I went at lunchtime). A bit pricey for what you get.

My parents used to have a favorite restaurant in Chicago called 'Katsu' on Peterson Avenue. Wonderful ambience and sushi and so close to their home. They closed after many years of great service…
My husband and I found a Katsu like restaurant in Aomori—'Ippachizushia' is a little off the beaten track and not at all ostentatious in decor. The inside is that 'middle bear'—not too big, not too small—just right. It is meticulous and the service is stellar—warm washcloths provided after we had been to the archeological site that was fascinating. There was just one young man sitting eating quietly as he scrolled and swiped and ate some very delicious looking sushi; it has to be truly some of the best sushi we have ever had. I pointed to a lot of what the young man had as I speak no Japanese—even though I am of Japanese heritage. My loss but they didn't mind at all.
The ice cold saki brewed in Aomori was very smooth—not at all alcoholic tasting—not too sweet, not too salty—that middle bear, again. There is no hard sell just recommendations.
The price was not outrageous at all. How I wish that they had another sister restaurant in Chicago—my parents would have frequented it!

Very good quality, very fresh food and friendly service. A small restaurant on a side street and very nicely laid our. The local Sake was also excellent. We do not speak Japanese, and they do not speak a lot of English, but we were able to order what we wanted without any problems. Very simple lines, clean and a nice atmosphere. If you do not want to watch TV make sure you have a table facing away from the screen..It was crowded on the festival night but no problems getting in the day afterwards.

We really enjoyed our sushi dinner at Ippachizushi. The menu was in Japanese but there was a menu with photos of the sets which came in handy. We both ordered a sushi set which had a nice mix of sushi, as well as a soup. The fish was very fresh and tasty. We also tried the scallop sashimi and this was also good.
Service was very friendly and we enjoyed our dinner and would certainly recommend!

Some friends from Tokyo were camping near Aomori so we met up for lunch at this highly- rated sushi restaurant. Although there have been long lines waiting to get in every evening, (it’s near my hotel, the JAL City Aomori) there were no lines for lunch. it was busy, but there was still ample seating available.
I opted for a Sashimi Moriwase (mixed types of sashimi) and got Maguro (tuna) Ika (squid) Amaebi (sweet shrimp), Saba (mackerel), Akagai (red shellfish), Hotate (scallop) and a white fish we could not quite figure out, sort of a cross between Hamachi (yellowtail) and Grouper.
The fish was super fresh and delicious. The Hotate had been sliced and a thin leaf of some thing had been inserted in the middle; whatever it was, the taste was great. The Miso Soup was delivered piping hot. The rice was really good and had a taste with just a wee bit more vinegar and sweet than usual, really distinctly different and good.
It’s excellent.

We only had to wait 10 minutes to be seated, and were ushered upstairs to the tatami room. The lacquer tables were lovely but having no English on the menu, and only pictures for the set sashimi plates, limited our options. We all selected the sashimi platter that included one each of squid, octopus, scallop, egg, swordfish, tuna, and prawn. Sadly, the squid was too tough to eat.
To widen your options we’d recommend either using the Google Translate app on you phone for lose translations on the menu, or find pictures here on Tripadvisor of the dishes you like, and point yo those.

We waited to be sitted in this cozy sushi restaurant, eager to taste their delucacies.. but no luck!!
Their menu us onky in Japanese and with only 3 photos. The staff does not speak Englush at all.
We had to leave the place, being absolutely unable to order!!! Such a pity for them!! They lose pitential foreign clients. We went to Asuka sushi, which is 200 meters nearby, and they have English menu with all photos.

We decided to dine here by choosing from tripadvisor and I have no regret about this. Sushi and sashimi are really fresh, just like it jump out from the sea to your mouth. However, price is not that friendly. It is a little bit more expensive than normal dine out.

We read the reviews and wanted to try for ourselves. We were not disappointed. Sashimi and sushi were very fresh and high quality. It was so good we went on another night when we were in Aomori.
An advice for non-Japanese, it would be good to know the names of the seafood u like in Japanese or show the chefs pictures. They do not speak much English and there is no English menu.

Although not easy to find it was well worth the hunt on a very wet day.
We were craving good sushi and thought Aormori would be the city to find it,being a fishing port. Luckily a local recommended this place and we were not disappointed. Ordered from the lunch set and all was fresh and good would highly recommend this restaurant

Had dinner last night. The waitress explained that the menu was only in Japanese but she translated everything for us kindly to English. Highlights: extremely fresh sashimi and the grilled anago fantastic. Grab a seat by the counter to watch your sushi chef work his magic and serve each piece in front of you.
