If you find yourself visiting the northern part of the island it would be unthinkable to skip this restaurant... well unless you don't like queuing as it can get very busy during lunch time at peak season. When we visited in March though there was not much queuing. Order the soki soba. Both the broth and the meat were exquisite!... More

Most of the time, the pork cartilage in pork soft bone spare rib noodles can be quite hard, but this restaurant has nailed how to cook it perfectly. It's melt in your mouth and the soup base is intense enough with flavour but without being too salty. I only had the medium size so-ki soba, but if you want to... More

This restaurant is a bit of a hike to get to but it is definitely worth it. I would recommend getting the restaurant before they open and put your name on the waiting list. This helps cut down the wait time. Expect to wait 30 - 60 minutes for a table depending on your party size. The broth and sooki... More

Services are not so excellent, location is far away from city center and menus are limited. However, this local noodle restaurant attracts so many tourists everyday. The reason is obvious. Soki-Noodle and Vegitable-Noodle are really really delicious. Unfortunately the restaurant became so popular nowadays and every customers have to wait for a while to taste this island wonder.

Locals on Ishikgaki repeatedly told us to go to the Akaishi Shokudo restaurant in the northern part of the island. As a "shokudo," it served basic Okinwawan-style food including the local specialty "Yaeyama Soba" (similar to the more well-known Okinawa Soba). Also, as expected of a shokudo, the atmosphere was non-existent: stark interior, florescent lights, TV on in the corner.... More
