Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It seems Otaru hasn’t fully recovered from COVID yet, many restaurants are closed by early evening. We arrived rather late and Waraku is one of the few that was still open at 8pm. The sushi here is not bad but somewhat expensive for the quality. Otaru has many fish markets and a specialised sushi street so Waraku probably won’t be my top choice the next time we visit.

A sushi train restaurant without the train. So we ordered off the menu and it was delicious. Staff was friendly and the place was empty. Large menu with many choices.

Fresh sushi on belt. Crowded but short waiting time. The ikura is so fresh and crunchy. Even tempura sushi on belt still tastes hot when it reaches our table. That shows the freshness and turnaround of this conveyor sushi place

Quite a famous kaitensushi(conveyor belt) restaurant in Otaru. Everything was quite easy, from our seating to the ordering. We tried mainly the seafood type sushi. All in all, we ate 13 plates, for about 4300¥ (S$54). Relatively cheap and good value for money.

It’s a busy place, and there’s alway long wait. Sushi was cheap but quality was not great at all. This type of sushi (sitting on the belt running around the restaurant) is the worst type. Deep fried octopus was super chewy and super greasy. Raw fish wasn’t fresh. The shellfish looked dry after sitting on the belt running around several times. If one is looking for cheap sushi, this is the place, otherwise, pay more for better quality of food. Not recommend this type of sushi or this place at all. Preference is quality.

On a weekday evening this place was packed and we waited about 40 minutes for a seat (the wait was even longer for those entering around the time we were seated). They have a good check-in system at the door to enter you party size and receive a ticket with a number and your estimated wait time. We spent a half hour walking around the neighborhood. The kids were plenty hungry by the time we were seated.
The sushi is nothing special and the conveyor belt has a rather low variety of options. You really need to order off the menu, fill out a ticket, and hand it off to a nearby chef. The quality was acceptable but not great. It was however a good deal as the bill for our 30 plates for a family of four was only ¥7200.
This place is a good option if you are on budget but want to enjoy sushi. Be prepared to navigate the menu if you want any variety.

We went to Waraku at the end of a long hiking and travelling day. Hungry and ready for a big fish feast, we were not disappointed. Fish quality was very good, good choices, friendly staff, reasonably priced. Good place if you come alone, as couple or even with the family. It’s close to the famous canal, so you can combine sightseeing with pleasing your taste buds.

Why? There are a lot of places better than this. Fish is not fresh, sushi prepared without any care.

Tastes really good! Sushi is very "shittori" (good texture) because fish is very very fresh. If it's in high season, then you might have to wait for an hour or so. Unfortunately, as of May 2018, they do not accept credit-card payment.

It's just ordinary and normal sushi. I came 5 pm so didn't wait. Not worth to wait. Price is reasonable.

My family had a sushi lunch experience at this big sushi restaurant which was along the way to the Otaru Canal from the Musical Box Museum. Tasty sushi at reasonable prices. Worth a try.

Excellent salmon and mackerel options on both red (140¥) and green (180¥) plates. Far surpassed our modest Otaru expectations.

As far as Sushi Trains restaurants go, this is just another. Nothing special.
Some plates might be doing as many laps as a Grand Prix race before ending up on your bill though on some plates they used the plastic film to assist maintaining freshness.
Lots of Salmon Sushi on the belt indicating high non-japanese clientele.
The service was very poor as it's a big place so you may need a starting pistol to get some attention.
It does get busy in holidays but they have decent waiting area. Take a number.
The one saving grace is that it was very cheap.
