Tasty sushi, very friendly service. Avoid rooms on second floor, with colder isolated atmosphere, except if you come with a group.

Was recommended this place by our hotel. Reservation was made but by the time we arrived and ordered 1hr before closing time, more than half the items on the menu were sold out!
Nevertheless, the sashimi and sushi did not disappoint. In fact, the food was so fresh and good that we forgot to take photos after the 3rd dish!

My friend brought me to this restaurant because she had eaten here the last time she visited Otaru. Her hotel concierge had recommended it, saying it was where the locals eat. We arrived around 6 PM on a Saturday night and got lucky that there were 2 seats available at the sushi bar. I opted to get the Uomasa chirashi, which was a large amount of food for the price! When I placed my order, the server kept telling me that that chirashi was big, and she was right! Great quality for a great price point.

We visited on Thu night in Oct before 7pm w/o reservation. Everything taste good especially sashimi don with ¥2100 and tempura prawn don. We wanted to sit at sushi bar but can't fit 9 of us and been lead to upstairs. Highly recommended.

We had a delicious meal at Uomasa during winter. Food and service were great, dishes were reasonably priced and highly recommended for all who likes sashimi.

We went there on the recommendation of our concierge who indicated that this restaurant caters to locals and is reasonably priced.
We arrived at the restaurant a bit before 7pm on a Tuesday night and had no problem getting a table. The menu was in japanese, so we ended up ordering by taking a picture of the display and pointing to the dishes we wanted. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. The Sapporo draft went along very nicely with our uni rice and mixed plate sushi. All our seafood were extremely fresh. I would definitely repeat and give them a two thumbs up. One warning - this is a cash only restaurant.

Looks like a family operated restaurant favoured by local patrons. Sushi platters are generous but not memorable. Little English is spoken. Service is erratic.

It's easy to walk past or totally miss this local secret due to it's unassuming, humble exterior on a side street. Inside it's just as easy to be fooled into thinking that the restaurant is packed because of its small size and local fans. But a call of nature revealed the place to be a sizable establishment. The sushi sets are the best value (1,900~2,500 Yen) and were deliciously fresh. À la carte sushi can be pricey (most expensive was 750 Yen for fatty Tuna) and quickly blow up the bill, so be warned. Also, the menu is all in Japanese so can be challenging but the staff, although couldn't speak English, were friendly and communication was fun. My only small comment was the grilled yellowtail head I ordered wasn't as fresh as the sushi but only slightly so. Everything else was great. I would definitely be a regular if I were a resident and would target the tempura dishes as my next round at Uomasa!

We visited this restaurant with friends and although from outside it looks kind of small, inside it is very large with a labyrinth of rooms and steps. They offer a great variety of row and cooked fish and we tried several dishes. All very fresh and tasty! The prices are quite reasonable so I really recommend it.

Recommended by the hotel staffs!
From JR station, walks down the main road and turn right at the junction of Lawson.
The Sushi was great and the price was reasonable.
Go for the 15 pcs Sushi for about 2700 Yen. in a nice presentation.
Suggest you go there before they open and join the line outside.
Otherwise, you may not know how long you need to wait to get a seat.

You can't tell this is an excellent sushi restaurant if you stand in front of it. Because an entrance is so small with a very plain display. But if you go inside, it's quite wide with upper floor for private rooms. Sushi or sashimi are very fresh and delicious. Baked potato with beef and cheese is a unique and popular dish, you shouldn't miss it.

Thanks to TA review, we tried this restaurant. The menu was in Japanese but luckily they have food models available. We ordered some sushi, potato baked with sea urchin and steamed egg. The seafood was really fresh and the steamed egg with seafood was really smooth and lovely, best one I had in Japan! To our surprise, the potato baked felt like a western style food but it was really tasty. The sushi came with a seafood soup as well. We were pleased with the quality of the food and would go back again.

On the advice of Dormy Premium Hotel staff we wandered about 3 blocks from the hotel & train station to find Uomasa. We entered thru the Sushi Bar side of the restaurant so we planted ourselves at the sushi bar. They speak very little English but we got along on my broken Japanese. 1st I had the Uni Don-fabulous! Broke Da Mouth as we would say in parts of Hawaii. Then I had a variety of nigiri sushi. Also fabulous-fresh, buttery, and they had a mantis shrimp which was firm, something between a cooked reg shrimp & lobster. I also tried a seasonal thing call "shirako" which is a part of the reproductive organs of a male cod. They say it is an acquired taste like natto but I enjoyed it! They also had a local sake which was very easy to drink & of course cold Sapporo beer! 5 stars! Fabulous place! Next time we might eat in the restaurant too!

By recommendation we stumbled into this hidden sushi restaurant. The special sushi set was super fresh and delicious, the lightly air-battered tempura was addictive; and the sea urchin potato bake was insanely moreish.
My surprise was the Dobinmushi (土瓶蒸し), which was a seafood and mushroom soup steam-boiled in an earthenware teapot.

We enjoyed a great dinner at Uomasa on a weeknight in early August. The restaurant is centrally located in downtown Otaru. There were many customers queuing for seats at 7pm, so it was fortunate that we held reservations. It was fun to sit at the counter and watch the chefs prepare the food!
Everything on the 12-piece special sushi plate was fresh, interesting, and delicious. Ditto for a shared order of various tempura. The slightly-dry local sake proved to be a good pairing with the food.
The tariff (about ¥5500 for two dinners, including a beer and 300ml bottle of sake) was very reasonable for such oishi food. I recommend Uomasa!
