We had a day tour in Otaru. We tried to get a table at the market near the JR station but there were too many people. So we took a taxi to this place. They have good grilled Herring and Uni. Very very delicious food. Note they only accept cash.

We went all the way there for brunch and not even visiting the aquarium. We had lots of uni, grilled scallops and raw abalone. All were so fresh and good. I will go back there again if I were to go to hokkaido again.

At the end of otaru port, this quaint restaurant has fresh seafood. We had grilled herring, tsubu sashimi and grilled, uni/ikura teishouku, scallops, abalone. I liked the baby scallop miso soup. What a great meal!

Went here for dinner during a two-night stay in Otaru. I was able to get there because I rented a car. About 12-15 minutes by car. Entered at 5pm. All the customers were eating set meals. We ordered individual items. Jumbo Atka mackerel ¥1650 Fish soup ¥750 Assorted sashimi ¥2500 This is tourist price! It's expensive. Flower fish bowl ¥990 It was filling. I think the food was average. The set meals were not expensive so I can see why it's popular. When we were leaving a tour group (Taiwanese) of about 20 people came in. Not bad, but not good either, I guess?

Came for lunch as we were attracted by the high reviews and because it was on our way from central Otaru to Shioya Port. We had rented a car as these places seemed difficult to visit using public transport. We were lucky to find an open space in their car park by the restaurant. Although it was a week day the restaurant was very busy. Still we were shown to a table without a long wait. There appeared to be many foreign guests as well as locals. The Asian guest occupying the table next to us and dining solo didn't speak Japanese but seemed to be managing well on his menu selection. I ordered their popular grilled herring course menu (nishin-teishoku) and my wife their Hokkai-don which is fresh seafood on a bowl of steamed rice. The Hokkai-don came first and my herring later. That didn't bother me as it takes time to grill fish. However the herring that came was warm outside but cooler inside and I cannot honestly say that it was one of the best I've had. On the other hand my wife tells me the Hokkai-don was excellent, especially the fresh scallops. Perhaps I'll rather try sashimi or shellfish on the next occasion. The total bill was slightly over 3,000 yen, reasonable for a fresh seafood restaurant. They don't accept credit cards.

Have eaten here when in town, always been happy with the staff, quality, portions of food. Prices for all budgets. Worth spending the money for uni while in Hokkaido. After eating uni here I no longer bother when outside Hokkaido. Check out the seasonal fresh catches (like scallops!).

We came here around 10.30 am on a Sunday morning. There is only one other diner. We order a grilled fish set, a grilled scallop set and a grilled squid. It is grilled to perfect and very very very yummy and juicy. The portion is generous and price is cheap for the good food and good service we have. After the meal, we asked for permission to continue parking our car there for another half hour while we run up to a view point. Beautiful ocean view. We will want to visit this place again

Nice experience starting from the ambiance when you approach the restaurant and see the fish grilling over charcoal. The sashimi, the uni - can’t be beat. Best lunch I had in Hokkaido. On the bay.

My good colleague suggested this place to me which I am very thankful for. The place is about 10-mins drive from the Otaru main attractions, very near the Otaru Aquarium. We arrived at around 3pm and the place is not busy. Parking is in the empty lot next to the seaside. Service was excellent even though the lady did not speak English, she still indicated options when we tried to order by pointing to the menu. We ordered sashimi and grilled seafood and everything was very fresh and delicious. Abalone, shrimp, uni, grilled squid were all excellent quality, I also ordered a sashimi don. After the meal we went for a stroll by the seaside, my girls were excited posing for pictures that we almost spent the entire afternoon there. Definitely recommend for both the food and scenery.

This restaurant is located at the far-most area of the Otaru peninsula near to an aquarium. Reservation is the must for this restaurant. I went for lunch on Sunday. There was a long waiting line. Luckily we reserved the table the day before, so we could get our seats quickly. Tables were packed and filled with customers. The fresh Nishin fishes were grilled in a traditional way in front of the restaurant, so the air is filled up with smell and smoke.

We had initially went to Sankaku Market, wanting to have lunch but read in some blog that Sankaku Market was a tourist trap, so we left but not before we asked on some prices there. Headed to Minshuku Aozukashokudo as recommended by locals and it was absolutely awesome! From fresh sashimi to grilled fish to the chicken rice bowl for children, the food is so tasty. Price was very reasonable too. Tried the fresh sea urchin and so yummy! Owner of restaurant is also very friendly and assisted with our orders although none of us speak Japanese. This place, although quite remote, is a real GEM. This is near the sea and will probably need a car to come here rather than public transport. However, the trip, if you make it there, is absolutely worth your while and stomach (so full with delicious fresh food)!

This place gave me more of a korean vibe than japanese vibe. It is a pretty run down looking eatery 15 min from the center of Otaru near the port. When we got there, it was obvious, it was popular not with the locals but with the tourists as the tables around us were all filled with chinese, koreans etc. The food was pretty average, seafood was fresh (but the seafood in most establishments in otaru are fresh). For the ambience and location, the price was average, was not super cheap. I ordered their uni donburi for 5800 yen, and while it was a lot of uni, it wasn't the cheapest donburi i have had. The other dishes were so-so. It was overall an ok experience but it was not a standout experience for me in any way.
