Ate here a couple of times. Between us, my wife and I had the Cao Lau, vegetarian Cao Lau and Com Ga (chicken rice). Of those, we'd rate the vegetarian Cao Lau five stars, Cao Lau four (pork was dry, everything else great) and unfortunately...the Com Ga was probably the worst I've ever had (even in western countries) (dry stringy chicken, rice flavour not great). Lesson is, order the food the restaurant is named after and you'll have a good meal.More

We had dinner tonight at this busy, efficient, friendly restaurant. We tried the Cao Lau, and grilled meat and noodles, served with accompanying sauces. Both were delicious and authentic, one of the best meals we’ve had in our week in Hoi An, and came in...at under $10 Aus., including a beer and juice. We were in and out in about an hour. Chatting with the owner afterwards he informed us the building/restaurant has been in the same family for five generations over 300 years. A must visit.More

We tried pretty much everything on the menu. My 15 yo smashed two com ga. I had cao lau. Hubby had bun thit nuong. At 40k each they were terrific value. Soft drinks 15k. Owner and staff were very kind, showing us what condiments to...try. Journey from our hotel down the river was beautiful. Well worth a visit.More

I came here to taste the Cao Lau, after reading many recommendations about this place. Service was fast, I was seated immediately and was served within 5 minutes. I found the Cao Lau tasty and well cooked, although the portion is relatively small compared to...other restaurants in the area. So you may have to get a side dish as well if you are hungry. Staff was helpful and some could even speak English. Do note that they close early, so you should probably come no later than 7:30pm.More

Initially ordered two serves of Cao Lau.. The waiter persuaded us to order one Cao Lau and one Grilled meat with noodles and share the dishes. Enjoyed the Cao Lau with a squeeze of lime but not so much the grilled meat with noodles. It...had an acidic taste and contained pickled vegetables. We finished all the food and counted the dish as another new taste, but not to be repeated. The herbal drink for 10,000 VND was delicious and the beer is cheap.More

Absolutely superb. Traditional Vietnamese restaurant that we found on a blog. Only have about 7 things on the menu, but I had Bùn thít núóng which was noodles, salad, mint, peanuts and grilled meat. Was absolutely delicious. Menu in English and staff spoke enough to...get by. 10/10More

After our lunch at Banh Mi Phuong, we went back to our AirBnB to refresh and rest for the afternoon, as we would be going back to the Ancient Town later in the evening. It was starting to get dark and that was when all...the lights were lit up - we spotted this restaurant along the same road where the taxi dropped us earlier. We decided to go and have a quick dinner and lucky for us, they have English description together with the dish name. ◾Cao Lau - a regional noodle dish originated from Hoi An, with pork and greens on a bed of rice noodles (which is soaked in lye water to give them unique characteristic in terms of texture and colour). It was a love-it-or-hate-it kind of affair. It wasn't my cup of tea to be honest. ◾Bun Thit Nuong - also a rice noodle dish topped with Vietnamese grilled pork and peanuts for the texture. I prefer this more as the crunchiness of the peanut went well with the tender pork and rice noodle. ◾Com Ga - chicken rice... Quite good though Com Ga Ba Buoi (our first dinner in Hoi An) was better. ◾Thit Nuong Cuon Banh Trang - grilled pork with rice papers.. fuss free and simply put everything onto the rice papers, wrap it and swallow it. ◾Bia Saigon - again... A beer for the occasion. After that, we walked slowly around the Ancient Town, admiring the night lights, touring the night market, took a boat ride, and lastly had another meal (next post) before finally going home for the night.More

Came here to try the local Hoi An speciality of Cao Lau, the flavours were great and the fried dough was so crunchy even after being in the sauce for a while. Was definitely the best Cao Lau we had in Hoi An.
