The city is a complete mixture of nationalities and is totally dependant on tourists. There are a lot of cats everywhere especially in the old town so expect to have them for company around your table whilst you eat. They may even land on your...table and the locals are against taking any determined action to remove them and merely shoo them away. Kaleici (the old town) is very touristy and expect to pay above average for most things. Small water bottles cost 0.5TL in a big Supermarket but you’ll pay prices as high as 7TL for the same bottle around town. Haggle for any souvenir purchases and don’t always expect that you will get that fish, the one you pointed at, when the plate arrives at your table. Nothing is priced so there is variable pricing depending on how local you are and how affluent you look. I’m painting a bleak picture but the locals are friendly and not too pushy and generally speaking you get what you pay for in terms of accommodation and meals. If you want to buy things, get out of Kaleici and into Antalya proper and you will find normal shops, stores and supermarkets. Taxi’s run on a meter and we found them reliable and inexpensive. In fact by UK standards, Turkey is a lot cheaper so enjoy and have fun in Antalya. Cats aside, my bugbear with Kaleici and Antalya is everybody plays music so loud and the keep turning up the volume to compete with the bar/restaurant next door!More
