Yummy yum yum at great prices !!!!!!

This was our second visit to Dar we first visited prepandemic. They have moved to a bigger premises. The food was outstanding I had the duck penang cooked to my spice preference and my husband had Tom kha goon which he said was absolutely delicious. This restaurant is run by a husband and wife team.Service was impeccable by Rocky the owner who by the way speaks impeccable English whilst his glamorous wife cooks the dishes. The prices were very reasonable so hop into a tuk tuk and come out of Hua Hin Town where alot of the restaurants are over priced and geared up for mass tourism and eat here you will not be disappointed. Even Rocky rang a grab taxi for us to get us back to our hotel as he said it would be cheaper. Thank you

Beautiful food in Hua Hin

On the recommendation of a friend, we went to DAR for an evening meal. All food (chicken wings and satay sticks......duck and beef curry mains) was cooked to order and well presented. The rice was the nicest we have ever had.....anywhere. The main meal portions were substantial , the starters less so; but all well priced and absolutely delicious. Staff were lovely and the vibe cool. Great place.....we'll be back

Interesting Thai restaurant

The "DAR Restaurant" is located near the Ibis Hua Hin hotel on the other side of the smaller main street, which is quieter in the evening. The Buddhist temple Wat Nong Kae is also nearby. The modern restaurant has two areas, a covered outdoor area and an air-conditioned indoor area, where TV broadcasts can also be seen occasionally. There is a modern, illustrated menu with English-language explanations, including how hot (or how spicy) the food can be served with Thai chilli. Be sure to specify the level of spiciness when ordering. The food looks very good and tastes good too. It is presented in an interesting way. Unfortunately, it takes a long time for the food to arrive hot and freshly prepared at the table after an order, even when the restaurant is not that busy. Cold drinks, alcoholic drinks and cocktails are brought quickly. There is also an attractively designed bar. The staff are nice and friendly. I ate here twice on this holiday. On the first evening I ordered duck with yellow Thai curry and jasmine rice, as well as fried crispy Thai crab cakes with a sweet Thai chilli sauce, along with a cocktail and later a Coke.

Long term frequent visitors to HuaHin, every year we give this place another go to see if it has improved, every year it gets worse, this year probably the worst service we have ever encountered in Thailand. Like one of the other reviewers suggests, it’s almost like the reviews must be about another restaurant. They need at least another 2 servers, probably more, ones that actually look around at diners would be a real bonus, perhaps double that in the kitchen. The owner should be front of house, meeting and greeting, not running around making things worse and achieving absolutely nothing. The income is clearly there due to the location and what must be a captive customer base due to lack of restaurants in this particular part of the road. Nothing makes sense, you can sit there watching tables that have just turned up being served almost immediately whilst there are numerous tables full of disgruntled diners asking where their food is and has their order been forgotten. Judging by the good reviews I can only think that these are from tourists who don’t know better, ( and were served within 2 hours) the place is organised chaos, you can wait literally hours for the food, overpriced drink is slammed down on the table, always after waiting far too long, polite comments about slow service are laughed at, is this just a greed / profit thing ? Food is always very small portions and very average, if that, but attempts to dress it up by better than average presentation obviously seems to work for some people not used to real Thai food. Even the bill takes forever, we won’t be back again, given up for good this time.

Avoid! Much better restaurants elsewhere

Average food with basic flavours, very slow service and a rude owner/head waiter. Our visit here started well and we were sat straight away…However, this was where the good service stopped. We had to wait 25 minutes before our drinks & food order was taken. Then there was a peak time around 19.30 when a few groups of people were wanting to come in the restaurant, but the owner/head waiter was totally overwhelmed! He started shouting at people and telling tables that other groups were before them in giving their order choices, it was just chaos really! When our food did finally arrive (chicken panang for me & beef massaman for my partner) they were both very plain/ average flavours. When asking for the bill we waited another 20 minutes and were still not given it, we eventually decided to walk up to the till inside and pay (also kept waiting 5 minutes before being seen), this also happened to customers on other tables who were also looking annoyed. This was the most expensive meal we have had so far during our stay in Bangkok/Chiang Mai/Hua Hin, but unfortunately the most disappointing. There are plenty of other restaurants around with nicer food, better service and are less expensive.

We were delighted to discover that DAR restaurant had merely moved location as opposed having closed completely following the pandemic. We last enjoyed a meal at this restaurant in 2018 and during the two weeks we spent in Hua Hin in 2023 we returned four times and each meal was superb. Fresh seafood, lobster, soft shell crabs, tiger prawns and sea bass prepared by Salina with her inimitable passion and desire to provide the best quality and unique taste for each part of your meal and delivered by Rocky in his own charming and charismatic way. This restaurant is unique, underpinned by the talents of Rocky and Salina who work exceptionally hard to provide an alternative to the dearth of restaurants available in Hua Hin. Salina takes pride in ensuring that her customers are completely satisfied and as you will see has overall responsibility for each meal prepared by her from scratch. She creates the menu, exploring tastes and textures so this will not be representative of the mainstream restaurants and if that is what your preference is then maybe the individual nature of this restaurant may not be for you. Personally, I enjoyed the atmosphere, the music, the engagement of not only Salina with customers but Rocky who compliments his wife as front of house ensuring service is provided with a smile, laugh, consideration and style (in additional to delicious cocktails).

Great Thai Food

The DAR has moved since we were last there in Jan 20, but the quality has remained the same. They serve excellent Thai food at reasonable prices (a little above average). And the service is excellent! Our favorites were the fish cakes (simply sensational) and the mango sticky rice, freshly prepared. We will eat here a few more times during our vacation!

Very nice food and very accommodating to being vegetarian - even made sure to use different pans and no fish oil for our dish! Be warned quite spicy even with their spiciness scale. Nice atmosphere and chef came personally to see how we were doing!

Not as good as I was led to believe

Heard great things about this place. It flatters to decieve. Whilst the food was good, there was not much of it. Portions are very small. I do not mind paying over the odds if the food is exceptional, but the food here is not much different to some of the restaurants frequented by the locals.

Simply the best.

I have known Salina and Rocky many years with coming to Hua Hin they were first in Hua Hin town Center by Grand Market then Covid came and shut them down along with nearly every other business here when I came back I found them again up near Cicada Market I visit them once a week as I now live in Hua Hin and I never have any complaints at all about their restaurant. They are a hard working family and Salina is a self taught chef with recipes passed down through her family she does everything fresh from scratch and she will always come out and ask how your food was and how could she do it better if need be. I know people have a right to their reviews that’s what makes things better but rather than making derogatory and rude comments on these reviews wouldn’t it be best to voice your opinion to the person’s themselves rather than hide behind a picture on your comments. Rocky Salinas husband is a hard working self taught barman who has worked many bars and has received many appraisals in his job, I have been in the restaurant when a customer came up with lots of lies about how long he had waited for a meal and it was total lies because they came after me but Rocky handled it well I feel sorry for them by the way some Farang think they can treat them disgustingly. I will always recommend Dar restaurant to anyone but remember if it’s busy you may have to wait as the the food doesn’t come out of a fridge/freezer ready made it is prepared with love and if it’s your first time as a customer hopefully it won’t be long before you return as a friend of theirs.

These good reviews must surely be about a different restaurant. This is a trap. We became hostages to the extremely slow and rude service. By the time we noticed our wait is exceeding 90 minutes (for simple curries), it was too late to go anywhere else. We would have just left and gone, otherwise. Food was extremely average and the price is more than some other nearby. The service is awful and the owner is really rude. the first night he just sent us away, saying there were too many people. Compared to many restaurants around, there weren't. the second night he let us stay. we ordered at 7.30 and got our food 9.15 p.m.! When we told him, he didn't even apologise. It's absolutely pathetic. Everyone was bored and walking around waiting for their food. The owner uses his son to serve food, a little boy that jumps around with people's meals on plates. This is so unprofessional. Nobody wears a mask and a filthy cloth cleaned our table when we arrived. Sorry but there are many better places around. Don't waste your evening and just drive or walk passed this.

Fabulous Restaurant With Wonderful Thai Food.

Dar is a real gem, we ate here for 6 nights of our 12 night stay in Hua Hin. Rocky is the larger than life host who runs the front of house while the chef and co owner is Selina (Mrs Rocky) a passionate and self taught chef who cooks simply wonderful Thai dishes. The food here is amazing, fresh, tasty and good value for money. Selina will cook her dishes to the level of spice you request, Rocky will assist here and you would be wise to follow his advice. The menu is quite extensive and we never got bored despite eating here so often. Our favourite was the signature curry which was devine with either the river or tiger prawns. Definitely our favourite restaurant in Hua Hin and we will definitely return.

Would highly recommend this restaurant. In the menu you find every thai dish you could wish for and an explanation of the spicyness-level (friendly advice: i consider myself a spicy eater but I couldn't handle 55%) which I found very helpful and nice. The chef herself introduced the dishes to us and gave us some recommendation, very nice and funny person. The other staff was very kind too. We ate Panang curry, stir fried morning glory and tiger prawns, all of it was so fresh and delicious! Will definietely come back :)

We have been following Dar restaurant for years and their ascension to where they are now, absolutely fantastic this young couple working so hard , she is the beautiful smile of the business and an excellent chef with the five stars experience he is the great force of the front of house , a good combination of win win. They are specialised in Fish and seafood and they do great, the flavours the presentation it’s all here, to make your night a special treat. Reasonably priced enjoy a great Thai fish and seafood experience .Highly recommended 🙏🙏

The best restaurant experience in Hua Hin

Food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant owners were very friendly even when the night was very busy. Visited this place twice as the food was so good. The Apple pie on dessert menu is a must have.
