Ethiopian is a favorite food genre of ours. We were excited to try Abyssinia in Arusha. The food was exceptional and the Ethiopian flavours burst off our tongues. Deep rich bere bere and nutty buttery smooth sauces left us feeling completely satisfied. Got to be one of the best Ethiopian meals we've had in the world.

Abyssinia is home to the best Ethiopian food in Arusha. Run by amazing staff, I am super impressed with how good the food was especially because I am pretty picky when it comes to Ethiopian. The tej is also amazing (honey wine).

This family-run restaurant is set away from the mania of the city. We could not have enjoyed ourselves more. The setting was tranquil, homely. The service was incredible and the food was delicious. They import a lot of their ingredients from Ethiopia and take great care, cooking everything from fresh. The coffee was a welcome digestif after we stuffed ourselves.... More

As a local resident of Arusha I have visited the majority of restaurants in Arusha that are here on tripadvisor. Abyssinia is by far the best! The food is amazing- You must try the tibs special, homemade cheese and the tej (honey wine). The location is a bit out of the way but it is well worth the trip!

First time eating Ethiopian food, we couldn't believe how wonderful it was! My husband had eaten here on a previous trip to Nairobi and insisted that our two daughters and I come on his next visit. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, but the food....awesome!! We bought a platter for four and loved everything on it.

I have been to this restaurant several times and my experience has always been consistently amazing. It is authentic Ethiopian meal which you find. In the past, the restaurant was located in Sakina area, very difficult to access. Now, the restaurant has moved to the center of the town, down the street from Impala roundabout to Njiro street, (turn to... More

Great Ethiopian food, warm family atmosphere. Meron is a sweet host who makes one feel at home, and her food is delicious. The traditional coffee is fantastic.

The location is a bit hard to find but if you want the real ethiopian experience with home made choro and shekla this is the place. The decor and setting is nothing to tell home about but the food is always perfect and consistent

I love this restaurant. One of my Ethiopian friends took me here the first time I came. We had lamb, chicken, beef, and the cabbage salad. Another visit I had their chickpeas and mincemeat as well. All was fabulous. Topped off with a class of Ethiopian honey wine. Delicious!
