About
Experience the fun and quirky side of Sri Lankan culture, food & hospitality at A Minute by Tuk Tuk. This unique lounge is first and foremost marked by its incredible location, on the eastern side of the Historic Galle Fort, with a wide verandah overlooking the pristine Indian ocean. The vibrantly colorful logos pay homage to the lounge's namesake the Sri Lankan 'Tuk Tuk', which is today as synonymous with the country as tea and spices. This almost flamboyant style extends to the restaurant's menu where the chef has dreamed up a variety of Asian inspired tapas, salads and mains that will indulge your taste buds with previously unimagined combinations, all paired with a wide and vibrant selection of wines, cocktails and juices.

There are a few restaurants at the Old Dutch Hospital and we opted for this because it has the most variety of Local cuisines. The rest have more western dishes.
We chose the black pork dish which is really spicy and peppery. And we also ordered prawn curry with local break. The curry was super yummy and pairing with the bread was perfect.
One thing to complain is I wish their waiting staff could treat their own people better especially during dining.

This restaurant has an outdoor seating, overlooking the sea (on first floor)
we were in a large group and had to reserve ahead. Menu is extensive though choice for vegetarians is quite limited (as in most places in Sri Lanka). the waiter was highly confused and kept omitting our dishes and serving wrong items. Food was good though service needs improvement.

Located on the upper floor of the old Dutch Hospital this restaurant and offers views over the bay, a good food and drink menu and attentive service. They offer vegetarian and gluten free options - nothing was too much trouble. Generous serves and nicely presented.

Ordered a burger and fries. Ordinarily I would expect the size of the burger patty to bear some relationship to the bun. That was not the case here. The patty was no more than 5 or 6cm in diameter and they had positioned it at the front of the bun to give the impression it was bigger. I took a bite then opened the bun to see a piece of almost raw bacon on top of this Pygmy patty. When I pointed this out the staff he tried to defend it but I pointed out that I work in hospitality and this was unacceptable. He said he’d change it. Reluctantly. A moment later he was back on the balcony dramatically throwing the original burger into the sea! Hilarious. The replacement arrived and was marginally better but I have been and still am sick. Make of that what you will. This was also not a cheap meal by SL standards and a graphic illustration of how easy it is to pick an absolute howler of a restaurant. Avoid.

Most over priced, worst seafood fried rice in Galle.
This was our third visit and the last. We have tried different dishes in the past and we tried the sea food fried rice this time and it was bad.....
I think the rice may have been cooked in the morning and they mix the pre cooked, unflavoured sea food mix that’s been cooked previously to the rice with some fresh cut up carrots and serve and to top that they charge around $8.00 for this dish when EVEN 5* hotels charge the same for great tasting fried rice.
Service:
Lots of staff around but you always have to ask them to bring water. If you don’t specifically say everyone needs water to drink they will not use common sense to bring for the entire group. This is consistent in every visit.
If you happen to use the washrooms while you are there you will notice that the entry door is broken and you have to use a ring handle to open the washroom door. Air dryer is almost about to stop working.
I think the glory days of this place is gone.

All four of us selected the daily catch, which was Tuna and we enjoyed easily the best tuna steak we have ever had over several years in Sri Lanka. It was succulent, very tender and full of flavour. Excellent! We also enjoyed the excellent sea view.

We returned here based on previous positive experiences. Unfortunately I get the feeling that standards have tremendously dropped. I ordered tiger prawns. My friends ordered the Galle prawn curry. After a while when the food was served, the waiter checked with us whether the food was nice. Only when advancing in my dish I realised that my prawns were certainly not tiger prawns. Also the Galle prawn curry was very ordinary with over cooked prawns. Living in Sri Lanka I know that fish and prawn curries are generally over cooked and that is OK according to Sri Lankan standards, though a restaurant like this you would expect to make traditional dishes with a twist. When I mentioned at the end of my meal that I thought that my tiger prawns did not fulfil my expectations, the waiter even admitted it, nothing was offered in return.

We were there for evening snacks and drinks . Foods nice but wine very expensive and unbelievable to see glass of cheaper wine which is Gossip wine selling at Rs:1,200 and was shocked . This is not fair and we are very disappointed about the wine prices. This wine locally cost maximum 2000 Rs per bottle . I hope management will review prices and offer fair prices to the customers...

Overlooking the water. We had a lunch of Sri Lankan prawn curry with loads of fresh bread and a Tandoori chicken wrap. Great fruit juices too. The waiter throws any leftover bread into the water for the fishes.

This place was so good we visited twice.
I had the Isso prawns with Sri Lankan bread twice which was absolutely delicious
My husband had isso prawns the first visit and Chicken with roti bread and rice on our second visit which was also lovely.
Unfortunately on our fist visit my husband ordered the mango panna cotta which was still
Frozen and the fresh mango with it was not ripe.
The place had a great spot overlooking the Galle Fort walls and the sea.
Great spot within the Dutch hospital site

Went for lunch, it was so overpriced with no value for money.
Got the calamari twist 890/- for literally 8 pieces. Dry, thin and flavourless. The prawn curry was 1800/- for 4 prawns. That’s FOUR prawns!! The curry did have a nice flavour but you get so many better prawn curries at the Galle fort (with much more prawns)
We also got a penne pasta, which was utterly hopeless. Flavourless muck.
Good things were the view and customer service.
My suggestion is go there for the view and have a cup of tea, then leave in a tuk tuk because in a minute you will be at a restaurant with much better food.

Tuk tuk is a place which I Have been a loyal customers for many years, it’s sad that with my recent visit they proved that local customers are not important and only foreign customers who are high Caliber are welcome. But they need to remember one thing that because of the locals customers that they were able to bring food to there family during the pandemic time, the portion of the food was small which was not worth the money. The place we sat was important to because of the view, but they asked my husband if We could change our seating to provide for another customer. It took them more then half an hour to bring us the calamari that we ordered. When we asked for the manger of the restaurant he was not to be seen to assist us. I recommend everyone to visit The Tuna and the crab Resturent, they have really good food and the service that Anjana and his staff gave is excellent...... never ever visit tuk tuk Gall the worst restaurant I have ever been, specially with their spoiled seafood!!!!

Just dropped in to this restaurant while on a visit to Galle Lighthouse. I enjoyed their food every bit of it.. French fries is so yummy...!! The service also really admirable. They help you to select the best food item at the best time.. Also they pack the food in a very healthy way if you ask them to arrange the food to take away..!

Superb atmosphere with the sound of the waves and the sea breeze. But the menu didnt seem exciting at first. It looked typically like the Ethnic/Chinese/Continental/Snacks type of multi-cuisine place.
But on my entire trip, the best meal was here.
We ordered Galle Prawn Curry with Sri Lankan bread which was very interesting. For the unitiated, it is packed with spices and loads of flavours. If you dont like hot food, ask them to temper it down. It was perfect for me.
We also had an eggplant based vegetarian platter which was totally new and with new flavors we had not experienced before.

Minute by Tuk Tuk Galle is the place I experienced worst customer service. While me and my friend were waiting for receivng our ordered foods, one of the staff came and asked us to move another table by saying our table has to arrange some foreign guests. Table he suggested was not enough to sit even a one person. What we got more irritated was when he said “ ඩොලර් ගේන්නනෙ මේක කරන්නෙ ඒ නිසා වෙන ටේබල් එකකට යන්න " ( we take everything to attaract foriegners to our place so move to another table) . We were seriously uncomfortable with that statements. Guys if you are willing to go Minute by Tuk Tuk Galle and if you are a local customer , please think twice before going there unless you want to getting insulted by the their staff.
