This is always our go to place for special occasions for 30 years. From entering the door you are greeted warmly. Staff / service is like no other here, polite, attentive, accommodating. Every person is made to feel special and appreciated during your visit. This classy restaurant has been open since 1913 and is now under the direction of Jack's... More

For a higher priced restaurant, we were not impressed with our service or meals. The Jack's Reserve Chardonnay from Napa Valley was the highlight of the evening. The greens in our salads were not worth eating. Both of our stuffed lobster tails were dried out & rubbery.

We were thrilled to find such a top-rated restaurant just a half-block from our hotel. We were in Albany for a Friday night concert at Times Union Center, and were very glad that we had thought ahead to make a dinner reservation for 4:45 pm on concert night. The place became packed with other concert-goers shortly after we arrived, but... More

Good food yet pricey. Very attentive waitstaff. Sat in front of a warm welcoming fireplace on a cold blustery day. Annoying to have to pay for parking on street during day. The owner came to our table to ask how our meals were. That rarely happens in most other establishments! The building, decor, and service are from a bygone era... More

Sat at the small bar and ordered crab cakes w/slaw (you get 2 fairly sized cakes) and very thin crust small pizza. Both delicious! The pizza was made with fresh grape tomatoes and basil (& cheese of course) and the crab cakes were plump and crispy. As a person who really doesn't like fishy tasting fish, these were not fishy.... Ate dinner here during a conference. Food was good. We were in an upper room above the restaurant. There was some confusion with another party on the third floor and where to sit. Décor was OK but dated. Service was slow. Perhaps service is better in the main restaurant.

Great bar. Overall good food if not somewhat standard selections. One of the oldest running restaurants in Albany with great pictures of historic Albany. This is a family business that has been handed down from generation to generation. It is still run with the same loving care. It is an gem.

We went here while in town on business. We were greatly disappointed. We waited for over 10 minutes before even being acknowledged at the table. We ordered drinks, and when they arrived the server didn't remember who ordered what - there was 3 of us who ordered drinks. This happened every round we ordered. When we received our food, steaks... We had a wonderful experience at Jack's Oyster House on State Street in downtown Albany. The dining room had an old style feel, with booths and tables. The waiters were delightful and very attentive. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the home made fish chowder (served since 1913) and oyster stew to the crab cakes, Caesar salad (with anchovies) and... More

Entrees were prepared to order with special requests accommodated to the best of their abilities. Environment was noisy at times but always friendly and inviting. Disappointing that the restrooms are down stairs; this is a no-no for the number of patrons who come to this wonderful restaurant but who have limited and the stairs are a dangerous situation.
