Bamboo Shack Cafe is not your typical Indonesian cafe. They have a slightly funky, western-influenced atmosphere, a new menu with a lot of international favourite things (such as Aussie Meat Pies) as well as a decent variety of Indonesian foods, healthy foods and drinks. Prices are pretty reasonable and serving sizes are generally more than adequate. There's an upstairs bar with pool table. Several local groups and Expat groups meet there. See the "Hash House Harriers" if you're interested in doing some amazing local walks or runs as part of a groups of Expats - great fun.

No fresh/hand made pizza's. Dry piece of bread. Do not go here for pizza.
Probably ok place if you want to drink beer and smoke a cigarette.

During my recent business trip to Bandung I stayed very close to Bamboo Shack. Not having an office I used Bamboo Shack on a daily basis to the point of it becoming my office for three weeks. 😂. Great coffee, delicious food and welcomed each day with warm smiles.

Bamboo Shack at the top Jl Dago is a great value place for a friendly drink and very reasonably priced food. Great range of food plus excellent draft beer. Also have a pool table for those who want to enjoy a lazy afternoon or evening.

Bamboo Shack Cafe (BSC) in Dago, Bandung, is one of my favourite places to hang out. It is now well established as the most popular venue for foreigners and locals, who wish to interact, meet friends or make new friends. Many groups meet here, including hash house harriers. They sell a broad menu of both western and Indonesian dishes at very reasonable prices and probably the coldest beer in town. Upstairs, there is a Peak Wine Shop, which sells a comprehensive range of foreign and local wines. BSC also hosts many events and have regular in-house activities, including pool competitions, screened sports events, including Rugby, and a film club every Sunday night at 1900, showing the best of foreign and local films.

I was looking for a place to eat with my little boy. The place was packed, some foreigners with children was on site, look decent. Looks like normal cafe, yet exceptional with half of the guests were foreigners drinking beers. If you concers about consuming alcohol especially with children perhaps this is not the place to be. But if you are, this is an option ... Complete with live music though I am not sure the live music was a daily thing

We regret that your experience at Bamboo Shack was disappointing. Since your visit there have been a number of changes made including a new menu. If near the Bamboo Shack Cafe in future we would welcome you to join activities - watch a movie Sunday night, join salsa dancing on Monday night or join pool competition on Wednesday nights.

Well I just love Bamboo Shack... when I get that craving for some western food, a beer or just to see familiar faces I go there... The western food is quite good - delicious pies and cheese fingers; good Indonesian food; cold beer all very reasonable priced. It's become the heart of the community as a place to meet foreigners living in Bandung and find out where the next Hash House Harriers is running. Hash by the way is a great little community where you get to see parts of Bandung's country side that is not easily accessible nor considered off the tourist track - hikes in the hills through villages through farms. You realise how beautiful Bandung is and you get to meet Indonesian and people form all other parts of the world. The kind of clientele that go to Bamboo Shack are often Indonesian creative types - animators, visual artists, actors, musicians etc.. and the expat community that frequents there are a truly lovely bunch of people in whole range of fields - from university exchange students, to hard nosed business people to hippies and environmentalists to hobby business to cultural attaches..... There's often a quiz nights, sometimes bands and performance nights, film screenings, football screening, pool competitions.. there are multiple spaces that can be used too....The owners and staff have created this wonderful atmosphere of embracing all. It'sa greta place to go if you want to find out different places to visit and see in Bandung and it probably has the cheapest beer in Bandung. Services is hit and miss, but its okay and much better than some places where you pay double the price for smaller portions. I love going to Bamboo Shack when I feel the need to get out of my kampung and engage with different people. I love the big breakfast - beats getting McDonald's when you get that western kind of craving. ( I usually eat Indonesian food as it is cheaper.)

Had a meal and a Bintang. To be honest, the pie was dried out and the hamburger was only average, however it was great to show my mates photo and see the staff acknowledge him. The girls were friendly and its a cool place to hang.

Many thanks for feedback above. It is always good to receive such a positive response.
We agree that the free meal offered to birthday guests is great opportunity to promote the restaurant and encourages others to join in the birthday celebrations at the Bamboo Shack.

Popular with foreigners and locals alike, Bamboo Shack is one of my favourite places to hang out in Dago, North Bandung. They have a pretty expansive menu, offering both western and Indonesian cuisine. The quality of food is better than average and the portions to match. One of my favourites is the Dory fish. The coffee's are not bad, particularly since they recently installed a new espresso machine! The cafe's facilities are comprehensive, including pool, karaoke and a small film theatre. One of the most popular regular events, for me at least, is the Sunday evening film night where a wide variety of films are shown in both English and other languages with subtitles. There are also regular showings of sport, from the rugby world cup to the Wimbeldon tennis final. The staff in Bamboo shack are always friendly and helpful and, to be honest, as a fairly regular frequenter, I have trouble faulting this place. I always enjoy my visits, even if just for a quick cup of coffee. If you're visiting there, have a look at the amazing mural of traditional 'wayang' puppets, literally etched into the full length of one wall. It is a work of art and took some doing!
