Wonderful dinner, amazing views and lovely hospitality

Great tasting menu in Mandapa. Loved the ambience, being surrounded by the river and the cocoon where we ate our meal, resembling a rice farmers hut. Kadek are waitress was super attentive and hospitality was second to none.

Beautiful setting but overpriced

We had read some positive reviews about the dining experience and food at Kubu and decided to go there because of its romantic location at the Ayung River. It was an extremely expensive dining experience which did not quite live up to our expectations. We did not recieve a warm welcome or felt special as guests (at such a place and at that cost, you expect to be treated as VIP). We had a late sitting at 9:30 P.M. (kitchen is open until 12) and the restaurant was empty except for the "bee-hives". We choose to eat a la carte and not the tasting menue. I took a Wyagu sirloin, ordered it medium done, but got a rare piece of meat I could not finish. All in all we were not very impressed by the food nor the service; At a 1st class restaurant with those prices you expect to be pampered and greeted like a VIP. We missed that. Usually on Bali everyone is so extremely kind and the hospitality is second to none. Is it because this is a huge Ritz-Carlton hotel that it lacks the kind, personal touch?

The Best Food Coma After Dinner!

My friend and I stay at Mandapa for 1 night and knew we had to take this chance to dine at Kubu. Kubu in Indonesian for Hut or Shelter, where Balinese farmers keep their rice after harvesting habitually. This word inspired Mandapa to use bamboo throughout its restaurant's architecture and decor. They are famous for being situated right next to the Ayung River and their Modern-European cuisine. They have two seatings: 7pm and 9.30pm. By the time we arrived at 7pm, the sun was just about to set and we were surprise to see our table upgraded to a Cocoon. We opted for their signature 8-course degustation menu and enjoyed every single dish. Ana (Director of F&B), Gus (F&B Manager) and Chef Bayu (Executive Chef) visited our table multiple times to make sure we were well fed and if we needed anything. We were not allowed to leave the restaurant without a food coma! I'd say I especially enjoyed the Grilled Black Cod and the Grilled Wagyu Rib Eye very much, but our favour part of the dish was the mini head of Romaine Lettuce, Anchovies and Parmesan Cheese that came with the beef. It was so darn good that we dared to beg the chef for the recipe. It was like eating a warm Caesar salad in every bite. They should have that as a dish on its own! I'd love to bring my parents and partner here on my next visit to Mandapa. The food and service is great!

Best restaurant in Ubud

The reason why is easy: Tasty food, fresh and prepared in the Italien way, which is my favorite style. It is possible to choose between 2 menues or a la carte, wich is important for me any my wife. Sometimes even 2 courses are enough for us. Then what to do with excellent restaurants where you only have the option to choose between 2 big menues??? We ate there 7 times, it got not boring at all. Sometimes the chef even made personal suggestions out of the menue. The Restaurant i recommend to people who like fine dining and italian kitchen. I recommend reservation in the cocoon, there is place for 2-4 persons. Directly at the riverside.

BEYOND THE EXPECTATIONS

Well, I was confused which part should I mention first. Every single things are amazing. From the beautiful lobby , cocoon, foods, and the friendly staffs. I was not staying in that hotel. But they give us a warm welcome. Yes, I guess the Ritz-Carlton culture was well implemented here. Since I have been stay in another Ritz- property before. I should highlighting the Wagyu Rib Eye and my sweet waitress Kadek. The Wagyu was the best one that I ever had in my life, the rich flavours of smoked lettuce and the sauce made it very special also the combination of the wine pairing was PERFECT! Kadek our waitress preparing us small chocolate cake for celebrate our anniversary, and it was touching our heart. She told me about her favourite place in Ubud since I have no idea which place should I visit if I will come to stay in Ubud next times. The chef, at the end of our meals came to our table to make sure we were enjoyed the meals thoroughly. This restaurant is one of my favourite so far. Will come back next time.

Fantastic!

Had reserved Kubu at Mandapa as a main highlight of our trip to Ubud...and we were not wrong. Initially we were seated in the cocoon but after few minutes we asked to be seated outside as then night was so nice and refreshing. The service, incuding the fact they changed our table upon request, was impeccable throughout the whole evening. We ordered 2 different set menues with wine pairing...and everything was really great. We only had one small comment about rib eye sauce...however at the end of a dinner the Chef himself came to apologize and to discuss it specifically what we disliked. This was a fantastic gesture which really shows how much they care about all their guests. Bravo and good luck!

Nice restaurant

My husband and I went for the view of the river, but unfortunately we arrived a bit late so we didn't get to enjoy the view that much. The restaurant design was very nice, it is like the photos you usually see on Pinterest. The food was good, we took the dishes a la carte not the set menu. They have a sommelier who helped us to pick our red wine. It was really good. The waiter was friendly and helped us pick the dishes. The sundried tomato tart with foam was the highlight and the complimentary soup.. I tried the black cod, it was well cooked, my husband tried the beef fillet.. we also tried the tortellini with pumpkin and the lobster salad.

What an experience!

This was our 2nd visit to this venue and we were very impressed. We arrived a bit early so were offered the option to have drinks in the bar overlooking the valley. It is spectacular and well worth the cocktail price to sit and enjoy the views before going down the valley to eat by the river. Staff were faultless, location beautiful and food divine. We had the essential tasting menu, which at about £50 is exceptional value and cocktails are about £12 each which if you see the location, its well worth it. There are also reasonable local wine and beer choices at a much lower price. If you can visit here, you wont regret it.

Exceptional, Even Brilliant Foodcraft Performance The 7 and 9 course menus are superb comparing favorably with other Michelin starred restaurants we have enjoyed around the globe. Some of you will be familiar with The French Laundry (California) and Vue Du Monde (Melbourne). That is the ascendant level of artistry/food/service and ambience orchestrated here. Location, ambience, sound of the river rushing by and smooth jazz audiosphere are all unique and spectacular. Other first class menus can compare but the atmosphere here sets this one apart and superior. Hotel provides individual electric golf cart shuttle service which is necessary on the winding and steep dark road to the restaurant.

It was a memorable dinner at the Private Cocoon. The food was great from start to the end, each was unique and worth raving about. Ambience was romantic as it was facing Ayung Ayung River. Disappointing meal and service

Disappointed and feel this restaurant does not justify the cost of the meal. We booked the 11 course dinner months in advance for my 40th birthday celebration. The service was poor and many times we were searching for the waitress. The drinks were the least desirable on our 3 week vacation in Bali.. tasted watered down and one was not even palatable. Our waiter Ely at one point was seen frowning and chatting with another wait staff appearing concerned while we sat waiting a long time for the next course. Empty cups and dishes from many of the courses sat on the table not cleared. I would have to ask for them to be taken away. Perhaps they were short staffed but the cocoons next to us were vacant so it didn’t appear to be a sold out night. For the cost of the meal we expected much more, especially for the price. I did appreciate the staff accommodating my gluten allergy and singing happy birthday at the conclusion of the meal. Perhaps they were having an off night.. at the end I walked out of the cocoon and twisted my ankle on the poor stone work while attempting a photo. An injury I am still feeling now that we have returned home. The pathway down to the restaurant is spectacular and the views of the river incredible. The atmosphere of the restaurant is beautiful and the bamboo work makes it breathtaking. However we would never recommend this restaurant especially with the other options in the area. The food was lacklustre, the lobster was very fishy, and we were left disappointed in the service, food quality and especially the drinks.

Unforgettable.

Having dinner at Kubu is one of the best dinner that we do, everything is so delicious with great explanation in it. The flowing water of Ayung river is drive us to serenity while enjoying every dish they serve to us. only need one word to discribe it, "Unforgetable". Thanks to Patih Riadi that has drive us to unforgetable journey to enjoying dinner serenity aside of Ayung river.

Most amazing meal in Ubud

My boyfriend and I ate here to celebrate my birthday. Truly one of the most unforgettable, amazing meals I will ever have. The location and setup of the restaurant was amazing, right by the Ayung River in a little "nest". They only have 9 of these nests, each one right by the river so there's always an amazing view from each one. We both chose "The Essential" menu and were stuffed by the end. The food was amazing, we especially loved the Grilled Wagyu Ribeye and the Chocolate Cappuccino dessert. They even gave me a special birthday cake which was a nice touch. A bit pricey but definitely worth it considering the quality of the food and the location. You cannot get this anywhere else. Would highly, highly recommend!
