I have been coming to this place for years and love it. The staff are always welcoming, the food is delicious (a perfect balance between healthy and comfort food) and I always leave feeling satisfied and happy. They have great deals on at the momnent....Highly recommend.More
i cannot comment much on the food, i only had a breakfast and juice or coffee i guess, but the cafe is such a lovely place, getting there on the wonderfully scenic green road, the whole campuhan ridge view, in the rain, with very balinese...decorations and wonderful scents and fantastic plants and flowers... i would spend as much time here as i have, with hearts flashing in my eyes.More
When in Bali I stay close by Elephant restaurant and enjoy calling in for multiple dinners. The service is excellent and the food is extremely tasty and well presented. I like the generous glasses of wine.I particularly like the Crispy Vietnamese Pancake served with fresh...vegetables and salad.More
Although we are living close to The Elephant, we hadn't really thought of going because it is vegetarian restaurant and we are meat eaters however a friend who is vegetarian took us over for dinner one night and all I can say is WOW!
First...off - the view of the ridge is fantastic! Thankfully we got there before it got too dark and got to take in the view.
I ordered a frappe to drink and got the choice of three fruits. I went with banana, mango and orange (unfortunately they were out of strawberry). It was delicious. So smooth and refreshing.
For my main course I had the sage gnocchi. It was incredible. One of the best gnocchi dishes I have every had. My husband chose the fettuccine with mushroom sauce. The dish was fantastic. The sauce smooth and rich and the noodles homemade.
Service was exceptional!
We will definitely be back to try more of their delicious dishes!More
I liked the food when we went the first time... tried to order from Grab a few days later but after waiting 30 minutes I was told they only started lunch at 11:30...... so no lunch for us then.... change it in the app...
I can understand why this restauarant gets the rave reviews, but I feel it's over-reated, and most of the high ratings are really down to its location and quirkiness rather than its food.
So - location first. It's out of the hustle and bustle of...Ubud centre, which is good, but a climb (if you're walking) up a steep hill with less than good pavements. The restaurant is tucked away off the main road, just past the Bintang shopping plaza, and on the opposite side of the road. There is ample parking. The sides of the restauarant are open to wonderful views across the tree tops and steep valley, making it a photographer's dream, and there is certain quirkiness with some of the seating - low sofas and cushions for instance.
The menu at The Elephant is vegetarian, which suited two of our party as we are veggies but, having said that, there wasn't a great deal that appealed to either of us, as it seems to cater to - if I dare say it - Foodie Snobs. All the salads have animal names, there is pasta which I opted for, with the mushroom sauce and it was really good. The other veggie had pasta with pesto - equally good. Other members of the party had the laksa and said it was "okay", and the fifth person couldn't find anything that appealed so had a couple of the side orders, which again were said to be "okay". So the verdict on the mains is Good, but nothing to rave about.
There was quite a discussion over dessert, all of which appealed, but having ordered three different ones the server came back to tell us that two of the three weren't available! This wasn't a late dinner - it was around 8.00pm by this time - so were were a little surprised, and an alternative choice made. Mine was tiramasu which was really soggy and heavily laced with rum flavouring - not nice. The lemon tart - chosen as the alternative - didn't taste of lemon and the pastry was thick and chewy - again not nice. Ice cream - what can you say about it other than it's not the best quality.
Finally when it came to paying the bill, I wanted to split it into two separate ones, but was told - in a somewhat brusque and curt manner - that "we don't split bills for parties over four". I was shown a typed notice to this effect taped to the side of the counter whiere it couldn't easily be seen - now, surely, if this is restuarant policy, this should be displayed somewhere prominent? Maybe at the entrance, or on the counter near the till? I understand the policy, but come on Elephant, put it where it can be seen - even on the menus might be an idea.
All in all, whilst the meal was acceptable, it was absolutely nothing to rave about. Location, maybe, food maybe not.More
