About
Welcome to Soma, a community gathering space for those who wish to "be the change we want to see in the world" Ghandi - starting with our food. After over 3 years in our intimate location on Dewi Sita, we moved to the most beautiful space on Jalan Gautama in the heart of Ubud with large gardens and antique wood houses in 2013. We offer a casual dining experience with the opportunity to escape the business of Ubud in our peaceful courtyard garden. We have 3 different seating areas - you can lounge all day on our sofas, have a big group meal in our garden, or an intimate date upstairs in our wooden house. In our main dining area, is a piano and multiple instruments. Most evenings you can enjoy live music and even come sing along. We are so grateful to share with you our passion for the alchemy of nature's gifts with the freshest, local organic foods, full of life force and love! Our food is designed to provide sustenance that will support your body to living in your true essence and aligning your body with your soul's purpose. We have a full menu of incredible juices, smoothies, elixers, teas, coffees, local beer and wine. Our dining options range from raw or live food, to beautiful vegetarian dishes with cheese and egg options as well as fresh local fish. Hydration is the key to health and many of our offerings are raw or alive, meaning they are still full of water, nutrients, life force and enzymes. Everything else is slow cooked at low temperatures for ultimate flavour. The water we serve and use to make everything comes from a spring and is purified with a carbon filter and a UV light steriliser keeping the life and memory of the water intact. All of our veggies are washed with purified water. In our live food, we use the finest quality of ingredients available, like virgin cold pressed organic coconut oil, fresh, local, organic cashews from the slopes of Mt. Agung that support community sustainability projects and Big Tree Farms raw cacao or chocolate. We are part of the international slow food movement that recognizes the most powerful thing we can do for the environment, our communities and our health is to choose sustainably grown food. About 90% of our ingredients are local, organic and sustainably grown. Many of our herbs and vegetables are grown in our own gardens and we also support all the other organic growers on Bali. We look forward to meeting you soon!

My god I thought that I had walked into a hipster baristas annual convention, but then decided it was a meeting place for people with no legs as the patrons all seemed to be dancing just with some sort of slow hand movements. The music that was also being played by the patrons was rather depressing and I fear these people will be keeping the makers of Valium very rich once they reach their 40s. On the up side it did give us a laugh watching the greeting hugs that went on for that embarrassing 3 to 30 seconds too long which was the reason I first gave two stars but the sangria wasn’t too bad so I’ve now given 3 stars.

We stumbled upon this lovely veggie / vegan restaurant by chance and were really excited. The setting is lovely as the tables are really spread out across 2 floors almost lots of plants and greenery. My vegan pizza was gorgeous - one of the best I have had. However the bread was quite sweet so not to everyone’s taste. The reason I have given 4 stars is the service was very slow and the portions small. Also the lighting is so dim that it is hard to read the menu or see one another clearly around the table. The food is really tasty though which is the main thing.

Really chilled out dining experience. Natural and organic food, nice menu with lots of options. Set up inside is beautiful and you can just sit around on cushions next to the various tables. Relaxing atmosphere inside and friendly staff. Woodfired pizzas were delicious!

I stayed Ubud for a couple of months and spent a good amount of my nights at Soma. I love the owner Johnny who always makes me feel like at home and one of the stuff member called Kadek who is truly the most kindest person I’ve ever met. Thank you Soma for the good food, nice drinks, great music and chill vibe! A definite recommendation if you’re a musician or any type of artist!

This is really a restaurant where you get delicious food. Vegetarian but also some with fish. The staff is very friendly and professional. You dont have to wait. I have tried sallads and dessert and I must say this is well above many places in Ubud.’ I will for sure return!

I was impressed by the green juice and pesto spaghetti I had in 2017. This year I still had a great woodfire pizza in March. Seating is nice and clean, a guy named Kadek took our temperatures and nicely pointed us to the handwashing station. There was no pizza. We were served by a trainee who is hmmmm....not so smart. At least they should have received a short briefing on the menu. The pesto wasn't bad but not great either. Very different from June 3017 after my mum's passing. Moreover, it was fetuccini and not spaghetti. I only decided for green vegies which was not bad but the only sambal they brought me was a bottled one. Well, as I was hungry I ate supermi I bought at Cocomart on my beautiful terrace at Cendana Resort.

The food was so so.. lazy staff, doesnt want to give a bill.. ‘pay in front’. When paying in front and wanting to pay with an Indonesian BCA debit card the staff wants to charge 3%. 1) this is forbidden by Indonesian law 2) the % the merchant pays to the bank is 0.15%. In other words the owner tries to steal your money and breaks the law. Asking for the manager, there is non. Whatsapped the owner about this after given a phonenumber, just read, no reply, hence my review. Also the arrogant, law breaking behavior of cashier Kadek was unacceptable.

We had a catastrophic dinner. Unpleasant staff and the dinner was not eatable. We had half of it and told them we couldnt eat and wanted to see the manager They were obviously afraid and there was no manager. Lots of discussion and they offered 10 % discount - a joke Then we talked to the staff in the kitchen - also catastrophy. They offered 50 % discount - stupid I red after that so many people have complained about this place Since years Its a puré tourist trap - avoid this place. There is no reason to visit They must have a really ugly manager, because of all the complaints Dont go!!!!

Where do we start with this place? I put the only positive in the title. Other than that, not a lot going for it. The overall menu is haphazard- looks like an attempt to throw together local foods and superfoods/health foods randomly without thought to a consistent texture, temperature or taste. Like they just want to say they have kale on the menu no matter what they throw in with it (i.e. noodles). At first glance we thought there would be a great variety of salads but after reading the full description we went with the side salad, which ended up with a flavorless dressing. Bruschetta, as others have said, comes out soggy because of overdose of pesto. And as others have said, some food comes out too fast to entertain the notion it's fresh-- pizza came out about 1-2 minutes after apps came and was underdone. Sizes on certain items are small for the price. The music is also unbelievably bad-- it's just a little too loud and is the worst wannabe folk songs in the vein of 60s Americana you could ever imagine-it's like someone gave an artificial intelligence program the task of writing hippie songs- this is another item that gives this place a disjointed feel- the natural/jungle look would work with instrumental, soft music or similar. This is also one of those places that shows the food prices as average compared to others on the menu, then holds back your bill until you're literally walking out the door with a cashier, to which point you find the tax plus a service charge added on. For us that came to an additional 40,000 and we share every I'm sure on average most people get hit more. If you want to pay by card they want yet another 3 percent. Does the wait staff even see any of the service charge? Who knows. At any rate, there are plenty more places with creative healthy menus along this same street to try that certainly execute their ideas better.

I agree staff uninterested. Apathetic. Looks tired and soulless. I was going to eat in a late lunch but chose to take away the caramel cheesecake which was delicious. Pity the 5 staff at front desk were chatting and inattentive. The place was empty. Very disappointing experience compared to past visits.

We have been there on Christmas Evening and found atmosphere very relaxing and service nice. That was the end of positive experience. We have ordered bruschetta and grilled zucchini for starter and mediterran pizza and grilled salmon with capers sauce as main coarse. Bruschetta had nothing in common with Italian antipasti: white bread of low quality not roasted and smeared with pesto!!! Zucchini and Pizza were ok but small and had no spices on them. Highlight of this evening was grilled salmon with capers sauce, mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. Salmon was cold and dry, no salt or pepper. Vegetables were ok but no spices as well. Mashed potatoes had nothing to do with potatoes taste at all. It was some slimy pale liquid substrate presumably from ready make package diluted with plane water. It was also smelly as old fridge when we paid at cash desk. Overall it could have been a nice place but need drastic improvement of cooking there.
